"My cat finds your lack of faith disturbing."

The cat purred. Loudly. And its tail was still twitching. Vader stared at it in disbelief. “What? Are you afraid to hiss at me?”

The cat hissed.

“I should have known better.”

So I've come across this brilliant bunch of crackfics about a cat adopting...Darth Vader. :-D The author is Lionchilde; there have been eleven stories so far, and the writer, ( Read more... )

Those stories about Darth Vader's cat sound marvelous!
Boromir would most definitely be a dog person.
D'Artagnan--dog
Aramis--cat
Athos--cat or a quiet dog
Porthos--dog

And wow, I can totally see the musketeers same way as you do!! Though I think Porthos might have gone for a cat in his later married life. A fat orange one. :-D

I'll have to check out those fics at some point, they sound hilarious. :D

As far as characters and their potential pets, I know a lot of folks favor the idea of Boromir as a dog person, but I'm not sure I completely agree with that. To the extent that I can see him having a pet at all it would probably be a dog (and a big dog--certainly not a little yappy one!), but... I don't know, I guess I'd say he'd like dogs, but perhaps wouldn't want to own one.

And I have a persistent personal fanon of Fin keeping songbirds, but don't ask me where that idea came from. ;)

I think I can see what you mean re Boromir. I've gotten used to the idea of him having a dog, at least as a kid, mainly owing to Astara's fanfiction. :) As an adult...no idea. Can one really own a pet, especially a dog, if one's away fighting for most of the time? Anyway, I can see him with a dog rather than with a cat.

Which makes me think of the mealtime descriptions of medieval households: you know, with dogs under tables fighting for the bones. I must say I really can't see that happening in Gondor. For one thing, the place somehow feels so...clean and tidy, and it's also just too, um, serious.

And Fin and songbirds...awww. :) Never thought of that, but am going to from now on. *chuckle*

Yeah, that's part of what I'm thinking too. I'm sure, in his position, he could certainly have someone else take care of the dog while he's away, but I'm not sure he'd be satisfied with that, y'know?

And oh ugh, certainly not with the medieval-household dog thing in Gondor. That sounds more like the Rohirrim, if Saruman is to be believed. :p

Although this has now got me wondering if they would have had working dogs in Gondor... it sounds kinda fitting, actually, but I dunno. Hmm...

Both the dog and the owner, eh? ;)

I think there'd definitely be guard dogs in Gondor.
