I read it on the Kindle, though the formatting was wonky. At least, I think it was wonky, but it wasn't a studiedly poetical translation. I'll call it free verse and risk looking like the semi-educated person I am.
I really enjoyed reading it. It's still a powerful story even though some of the cultural context is beyond me. I'm thinking of investing in an annotated version next. I enjoyed the recent movie 'Troy', but as a spectacle rather than a real movie interpretation of the Iliad. I was trying to think of a context in which you could portray the passions that drive the characters in a way that would resonate more for modern audiences. Where do you find the quest for glory for its own sake these days? Sports championship is a kind of immortality, in a sub-culture that evokes very strong emotions in those who participate.
Or maybe an HBO mini series it would be the next Game of Thrones...
