Let's Call the Whole Thing Off, Log 6/??? [Action]

Sep 30, 2011 11:55

Evelyn refuses to follow the White Rabbit. There is something wholly unnerving about its sharp teeth, and despite her irrepressible curiosity she's learned a little something about curbing her eagerness to jump into the fray. That, and she wouldn't want someone completely opposite her running willy-nilly. Someone might mistake her mirror for her ( Read more... )

[ Ah, unfortunately she will have no such encounter just yet. Because this guy here? That's just good old Philip who most definitely has learned a similar lesson about walking through strange doors or jumping down odd holes. Not making that mistake again. Ha!

He must have been on the way back to his room when he passes Evelyn and oh my, he seems so lost in thoughts just then, you'd almost think he doesn't recognise, why, perhapd has never even spoken to her first!

But of course that is a mere temporary distraction and he recovers quickly and cheerfully. ]

Evie!

[ His eyepatch is there, on the right side too (which is obvious, given that that's where he's missing an eye - duh!) and his clothes look as they do, perhaps not sophisticated but certainly well taken care of and clean... and most definitely not with a faint cigarette aroma lingering on them. ]

Why Philip, you look so Philip-y today. libraritology September 30 2011, 16:44:56 UTC
[Evelyn certainly isn't suspicious of Philip, no, because he's wearing an eyepatch from his accident, and what sort of silly person would pretend to be blind in one eye? No one she knows, that's who.

But it's a good thing she knows him so well now!]

Philip! Hello.

[Her exploratory stroll down the second floor hallway screeches to a halt as Evie addresses him, smiling.]

I'm glad to see you're all right - there's been an awful lot of fuss this morning about people coming and going from the sides. How are you?

Reply

Why, thank you! You too look exceptionally Evelyn. Which makes sense. Because we are those people! britchillsout September 30 2011, 16:59:00 UTC
[ He nods. ]

I noticed.

[ What he most definitely doesn't notice is her tits which are disappointingly concealed on this side. No, that is not a thought he has to get out of his mind before speaking. ]

I'm, uh, I'm fine. [ Beat. ] You?

[ He clears his throat. ]

...I'm- I'm glad you stayed on this side, actually. It's--

[ A smile. ]

It's probably safer here.

I'm all right...just trying to get my bearings with all of the opposites running about.

[Evelyn certainly agrees with Philip regarding safety. If a reckless bunch of rebels plan on overthrowing their monarch, things won't be peaceful for long on the other side of the looking glass.]

I had no idea there was a coup happening, but I suppose that's expected when I spend so much time in the library. Have you met any of them today? The, ah-

[A little hand gesture.]

-the mirrors.

[Sup sup sup. Nagi knows more or less what's been going on, but doesn't know enough about his mirror to think it would be a good idea to go running off to the other side for some healthy revolut'ing, no matter how much he might want to. So instead he's just pacing around the mansion.]

Evelyn? [Please be the real one so this isn't awkward kthx.]

[That's cool, man. I mean, someone's gotta protect the real side from the forces of evil, right? Right.]

Owl! You're- [She grows wary.] ...you are you, correct?

[He smiles a bit. Man, it's nice to talk to her when she can actually see his facial expression.] I am me, yes.

Thank goodness, I- I haven't had the best of luck today guessing who's who.

[That's a bit of an understatement, really.]

[ This does not happen at the beginning of her research, why, it does in fact happen quite a while after that, but it does happen, perhaps just about around the time she prowls the halls with a baseball bat.

Philip has had a lovely time on the other side already, but something encouraged him to take a break. Perhaps he wanted to return his loot to the safety of his own home before continuing to explore, perhaps the Queen's chambers were all the sightseeing he needed or perhaps he just had an unpleasant feeling about staying over there for too long.

Whatever it is, it sure is nice to spot a familiar face, even if that face just happens to be disappearing around the corner.

He hurries the few steps after her and gently taps her on the shoulder once. ]

Evie! Hey...

[Evelyn has not had a very good morning. One might say that it left much to be desired, and gave her an uncanny craving to forego the propriety endorsed by Ms. Emily Post. This might explain the Louisville Slugger balanced on one shoulder with a remarkably comfortable air. If she's going to break some mirrors and add several hundred years of bad luck to her tallying list, she might as well do it with the proper weapon.

Unfortunately, said morning events have left Evie a bit jumpy and trigger-happy, as it were. When Philip taps on her shoulder, she panics.

Evelyn whirls around, baseball bat gripped tightly in both hands, poised to strike.]

[Then it sinks in that this person is familiar. It doesn't quite sink in that he's different from the version she's thinking of.

Evelyn narrows her eyes.]

I thought I told you no!

Wh-What?

[ The reaction terrifies him. Because for a second he didn't even consider all the terrible scenarios.

What if he just approached her mirror? Or worse, what if he didn't?

Philip takes a step back, arms twitching a little upwards in defense. ]

[ Mirror!Alto had been interested in the other side. He never had a chance to cross over, and now was finally his chance. Gracefully jumping out of the mirror (and effectively sending his crude other to the mirror) he fixed his skirt that he was wearing.

Going out to the hallway, he began wandering before spotting a figure he had seen his other talk to before ]

Evelyn!

[ of course, this mirror obviously looks different. Either Alto had an unknown hobby or it wasn't Alto all together ]

[ Alto walks up to Evelyn. His movements are completely of a graceful lady's. ]

Yes, I'm glad you remembered my name.

You're, um. Dressed...differently than I remember.

[Her grip tightens around her baseball bat- We did mention she has one, didn't we? No? Well. Let's just say that her morning encounter with a mirror ended poorly.]
