Rhapsody in Blue, Log 5/??? [Action/Video]

Sep 09, 2011 00:17

Low, quiet notes - following a playful glissando up into a clarinet's soulful wail - reverberate down the mansion hallway and out of the music room. Earth-dwellers may recognize the tune as classic George Gershwin, and even if the piece itself is unfamiliar, dear listener, it possesses a certain jaunty attitude that many people would find ( Read more... )

[...hold on, she almost dropped an armful of records, she hadn't expected someone to ring in. Setting them down carefully, Evelyn turns to the communicator and switches to video.

Either this man is cloaked in shadows, or he's very...dark.]

You're familiar with this?

[HOW EXCITING.]

I was starting to miss music from my own time.

Something like that.

Which is to say, he's never heard Gershwin before, but he likes it.

Your time doesn't sound half bad.

1926 is a very good year, although I might be a bit biased.

[Jazz is up-and-coming, too, and she enjoys it well enough. Particularly the big-band pieces.]

I've been going through records all morning. Do you have any preferences, Mister, ah...I'm sorry, we haven't been introduced. I'm Evelyn.

[The funny thing about being in a glee club run by Will Schuester is that you get exposure to a bunch of songs that are way old and haven't been heard of in years.

Okay, Puck doesn't attribute his exposure to that music just to Mr. Schue, but he's more than a little responsible to it. But all of that aside, jazz is something Puck can appreciate. Even if it's been long-debated as to whether Rhapsody in Blue is jazz or not.

Long story short, Puck appreciates Evelyn's choice in music.]

I gotta say, I'm more into rock and stuff, but that's not too bad.

[Rhapsody in Blue is so totally jazz, what are you saying, young man.

Evelyn settles in front of her communicator, adjusting the focus, pleasantly surprised to see someone new.]

Hello!

[...what is with his hair.]

You- Rock? As in...granite, or marble, or...I...I'm sorry, I don't quite know what you mean.

[Look, all he knows is that some people consider it classical music with jazz influences.]

Hey. And I mean rock music. You know, epic guitar riffs, drums, that kind of thing.

[He smirks, thinking she must be kidding. Who doesn't know what rock music is?]

...epic guitar riffs?

[Call her confused, but...well, she's confused. Then Evelyn realizes the likely reason behind everything, and tests the waters with a wary:]

Is this some type of modern music?

[ in the spirit of exploring her new dwelling, Kanaya's cautiously making her way around, figuring that she'll have to leave her own quarters sooner or later. And besides, she can hear music - unfamiliar music, true, but music nonetheless. Anyone listening to such a fine piece must surely be a civilised being! Surely. Even if they are human, which is a thought she's not dealing with too well at the moment. Still, she's dealt with scarier things than stumbling across a stranger in her short life, and so she peers around through the doorway of the music room, making everything a little brighter ]

Um. ... hello?

[Cue Evelyn whipping around sharply, arms full of records, peering over the top of the stack. Someone new! Smiling brightly, she moves to place her hoard of burlesque variety show music, opera, and early jazz on the nearest table.]

Hello!

[Hands firmly planted on her hips, she leans to one side a bit to look through the doorway.]

...you can come in, you know. I won't bite.

[She moves to turn down the volume of the gramophone.]

[ Kanaya laughs nervously at the last part as if she's enjoying a private joke that she shouldn't indulge in, and it makes her fangs show all the more over her lower lip. Oh, wow. A human in the flesh! Decidedly different looking than those viewed on her computer screen, that's for certain. She nods her head, scooting into the room ]

Hello.

... which I realise I've already said. But unfortunately, it was either repetition or pointing out how pink you are, and making my greeting known twice seemed a lot more polite than stating the obvious. Even though I just did that as well. Umm.

[Oh. Well. She does have some teeth, doesn't she?

Chin up, girl, you can handle this with your usual, impeccable aplomb.]

...I am rather pink, aren't I?

[Evelyn states to relieve the tension, holding an arm out and looking at it critically.]

They are...

[Hold on, she's looking for Ruth Etting albums. Wait...wait...waaaaaai- there we go.]

...records! Music is somehow put on them, I've no idea how they do it, it's quite ingenious.

It's only now that she recognizes his voice. It's been a while.]

Zuko, is it? I'm glad you're feeling better. You weren't in very good shape upon arriving here.

Gramophone.

[Evelyn corrects him, a little startled by his time period.]

You're from... [She does some quick math.] ...one-hundred and thirty-three years in the future.
