Do any of you have memories you cherish from childhood? Or memories that, while maybe not considered 'good', stand out in your mind?

Additionally... have you ever revisited something you've enjoyed as a child and found it less than satisfying?

[Reffy poses questions to the network, in an attempt to understand certain things about humanity that she ( Read more... )

Uhm... I don't really have memories that I cherish, but, like, I remember bullies from when I was a kid. Or, uhm, my brother and I holing up in our room and watching old sci-fi movies and reading comics.

[He sounds much more matter-of-fact rather than upset by his less-than-cherishable memories.]

And they stand out in your mind for specific reasons, or just because?

[Isn't she so creepily pry-y?]

Well, they both kind of set me up for being me, I guess. Like, I mean, the bullies never stopped, so that's less of a childhood thing and more of a full life thing. But my brother and I were close for awhile. Then he got me into demons. So I owe him a lot, I guess.

[Even if he is in a mental institute somewhere...]

I'm sorry that you were bullied. It is... never fun.

Your brother got you into demons? [There is curiosity clear in her voice. But no disbelief. She's been on the boat long enough to accept that some things aren't the same in her world.]

[What kind of question is that? Sokka's got a lot of memories from his childhood. Not all of them are good.]

Uh, when my dad left? I remember that really clearly. And, uh... [He looks for something positive.] When Dad and I went hunting for the first time together, just us.

I never left the Southern Water Tribe until recently, though, so... yeah. I dunno about that second question.

You would say both of these things influenced you? Or they just stand out for one reason or another?

[Southern water tribe... not her world, she thinks. Also, its a weird question because Reffy is weird.]

The Southern Water Tribe is your home, then?

Yeah. Well. The hunting thing was just cool. I was like, five. Four, maybe.

[He can't remember if his mom was alive at that point. He's pretty sure she was. Wait, no, he had to have been younger than that, when did dad leave?

He feels stupid that he can't remember something that important.]

Dad leaving... changed everything.

[He shrugs in a "so yeah" way, not that she can see it.]

Yeah, I'm from the Water Tribe. The one in the, the south. Not the one at the North Pole. Or the swamp guys, we don't know them either. Much.

'Just cool', then. Interesting.

[And she actually genuinely sounds interested. She doesn't pursue the bit about his father; she does have some tact.]

I can't say I've ever heard of any of them, honestly. I assume they're from your homeworld and don't exist in mine.

...Swamp water tribe?

I used to hide in the attic with my cousin. We'd read books and practice our studies together.

That sounds like a lovely memory... it is a good one, I assume?

Y...[Yeah, that cousin wants him dead right now] Yeah. Yeah it is.

... Metrotitan was fun. While it existed.

What was Metrotitan? I've heard of Cybertron, but not that one...

heavyweaponsbot April 5 2010, 06:12:55 UTC
... It was a city, on Cybertron. My ground forces were stationed there.

Oh. So it was like your... home city?

[...wow. The answers to those questions are things Xanth never really wanted to think about again. There are plenty of events that stand out in his mind that are less than positive.

It's a few minutes before he manages to reply. His voice is the slightest bit hoarse.]

Y-You, uh, a... a lot of people like asking s-strange... strange questions, huh...

[She's never heard this voice before! He sounds very nervous. Or hurt. Or both.

She modulates her tone accordingly, trying to sound very nonthreatening and soothing.]

I suppose they are strange, but there is the matter of my curiosity and... the fact that there is very little to do otherwise. And I do not wish to get sprayed with water.

[Good call, Reffy. Either of those assumptions are par for the course. Xanth is glad she's not prying further about those questions.]

S-sprayed with... wa-- water? D-Does, uh...

...w-what?

The device you're using. If you don't post to the network every two weeks or so, it sprays you with water. It's mostly harmless, but very aggravating.
