The patting was really more like he was reassuring a crazy person who was drooling and couldn’t chew his own food, rather than a crazy person who might fly off the handle and kill people. Malfoy was always superior like that. Harry found it extremely comforting.
Continuity check: Malfoy said, even though Harry hadn’t touched his [chocolate], although Harry was sipping out of it a few moments earlier.

"and when Harry thought of Malfoy, and the things he must have been feeling, there was no room for the monster to rise" - so spot on, being in the midst of depression can make a person rather self centred.

I could quote so many things back at you - Harry wanting to be held, Draco's general snarkiness not to mention his breakfast - thank you for updating, much as I look forward to the conclusion I also just really enjoy the pace of this.
