At around 4:35ish in this video, John Melendez asks David Cook who his favorite bands/musical influences are. David mentions the usuals, Our Lady Peace, Big Wreck, 8Stops7 (another seriously obscure 90s rock band I loved) and then...he mentions The Nixons. Cue my heart STOPPING

You have got to be fucking kidding me. LOL. Let me explain...

I lived in Oklahoma for years and used to play with a band called Gallery 13...and many a night we shared the stage with The Nixons and partied with them afterward. We did soooo many cd signings (when The Nixon's "Six" was released) with them at record stores all over southern Oklahoma and in OKC. I haven't seen them for years (I live in Louisiana now and that was looong ago) but soooo strange that you mentioned the guys. They signed a record deal and we didn't (because with lyrics like "fallopian rope, utopian hope" coming from Derek, our lead singer, we were not destined for fame...lol). We've shared a stage with The Flaming Lips as well (also from OKC).

Weird, girl. Just...weird...lol.

I love the boys so much. I'm still in contact with Zac...he mostly produces now, but he's done a few solo records since they broke up.

OMGWTFSIX. I have wanted to get my hands on a copy of that record for SO. LONG. But I've never been able to find it!!

My mind is still boggled. ~g~ I'll have to scratch around and see if I can find some photos from that time. I know I have some...somewhere. We're in the process of moving so maybe I'll come across them? When ex and I split, he made off with a lot of my crap bastard but I don't think he has those.

Ah, to be in my early 20's again. Good times.

Somehow I missed that post the first time around...but it's just like _kittenheels said in response to that post, that is the exact reason that I love music so very much. It speaks to people and pulls them in ways that we could never imagine. We each have our own special experience and that is REALLY COOl that David mentioned them...I'm excited for you :D

It's just....so WEIRD, Ren. So weird. It's like, I have this extra...CONNECTION to David now, even though I'll probably never meet him and never get to geek out about them with him...to know that he was touched by their music too is just one of the coolest things EVER.
