this is excerpted from an e-mail my Uncle sent me.. after reading my LJ. Whee.. I thought these things to be particularly wise and trew.. maybe because I agree, and we all know how wise and trew I am. ;)
"The good news is... You keep raising the bar on your personal standards.
The bad news is... You keep raising the bar on your personal standards.
Translation: You're way, WAY ahead of those in your age group (I know... I was in the same predicament when I was your age). You're taking the high road... that's a tough thing to do... but you gotta be true to yourself, and that pays off in the long haul (yeah... in the short haul you just gotta suffer). Let's get real... Most in your age group are still trying to understand how to write in complete sentences, while you're writing online novelettes. You expect people to be reasonable and considerate of others... sorry, most of your peers just don't get it. If I sound a little cynical, it's prolly cuz I am... but on the flip side, I know there's a small handful of people out there in the millions of others that make life worthwhile -- it's just a matter of finding them (while weeding through the jerks and jackasses in the meantime).
The above is not to be interpreted that people get better with age... in reality, they don't. With few exceptions, I think people are pretty much who they are from age 18 on -- so young jerks just grow up to be older, more mature jerks. As a general rule, of course. Your mileage may vary."
