Calvin had this thing about music. It wasn't that - on top of being a genius - he was a musical prodigy or anything that impressive. It was just that music was sort of his reprieve. A solace, a sanctuary. When he listened to music - the real kind of music, like Tchaikovsky, Bach, Mozart, not any of the drivel in the current popular culture - he felt at ease. All of those little worries that nagged and wore him down throughout the day just disappeared, drowned out by the harmonizing instruments. It was perfection ( ... )

Shiloh, on the other hand, had this thing about his video games. By default, he wasn't a people person. Sure, he liked admiring girls and trying to get in their pants, but the likelihood of him wanting to stick around for conversation was slim. The same went for his roommate. Games were first and foremost the most important thing in his life. He didn't so much care about people, or his roommate or his mum when games factored into the equation. Shiloh yelled over the sound of the overly gay music coming from the headphones and the noise of the ( ... )

The frown on Calvin's face deepened. It wasn't as if he were unaware of what kind of person Shiloh was. He seemed just as passionate about gaming as Calvin was about theoretics and learning in general. However, the difference between their passions, of course, was that Shiloh was willing to get in anyone's way to play, whereas Calvin quietly studied away and thought about theoretics without bothering anyone.

Taking a deep breath, and letting out slowly, Calvin tried to think of happier things to calm himself down. Getting worked up would only result in a hyperventilation fit, and possibly his body attaching itself to random objects and/or surfaces without his permission. The fact that Shiloh was ignoring his request for his headphones back, however, just made the entire endeavor moot point. He felt his heartbeat rise, and the room become warmer, as he curled and uncurled his fists. Shiloh turned up the volume on his game, and that was just itCalvin reached out, yanked the headphones from Shiloh's head, and pulled the plug from its ( ... )
