I thought they were vines rather than apple trees. I imagine they are a few years off from bearing fruit.

The apple trees were all pollarded to a surprisingly short height, presumably to make it easier to harvest apples (by hand?) - perhaps they will bear fruit this year?

The vines in the vineyard looked pretty stumpy and dead. I think they'll need a bit of warm weather before they start to do much.

When I look at that first picture, I can understand why Blake would have used that turn of phrase to describe England.
