See, that's the thing, and that's the argument I made. However I've no way of knowing what happened in the first 81K miles. I know *I* have taken exceptional care of it, but who knows what the first owner did. (This is also why I *bought* a Corolla, and why I could have bashed my head against the desk while talking to Mom.)
They are, a little. They'll be down very much once I'm done cleaning the old place and getting stuff out.
well, transmissions are bugfuck expensive in general. When I had to replace the one in my last car (with a rebuilt!) it was $2400. Mostly because labour around here runs $100/hr and it takes a fuckton of work to replace a transmission (or do anything with it, honestly.)
I keep telling myself: it's a damn Toyota. If I fix this the odds are pretty solid it will run for another 100K miles--and long before I drive that many, I'll be ready to replace it.

Fortunately, I only paid $100 for it from a friend and it lasted me from November 2007 to February 2010...although I did put like $1600 into it.
