The Clarence, (53, Whitehall, London, SW1A 2HP) has offered it's upstairs room for meetings / games for a few years now. And I was expecting to be going down there TWICE this week so imagine my suprise when I get two unrelated mailings from two very diverse groups explaining that they were both having to change venues at short notice due to the ( Read more... )

If you need a new venue, try The Blue Posts on Newman Street (not the other one!) We use them for several things, and they are lovely, not at all phased by weirdos (we run monthly bisexual and polyamory groups there) and the food is great. The upstairs room is also very nice

Thanks Pet ! Appreciated !! Any idea of what / or if they charge for a room ?

I'm all in favour of supporting good / friendly pubs and putting the leather into flash f*ckers who treat their customers as dirt. So, kiddies, an endorsement for The Blue Posts (81, Newman St, London, W1T 3EU) from faerierhona !

Please support GOOD pubs (there's few enough of them !!)

*smiles thoughtfully at a pub being that daft*

See, if they'd just said they weren't going to take any new bookings, they'd be in the clear.

But I suspect that they're required to honour any existing booking agreements as they were at the time - they can't just decide to up the bar-taking requirements after the agreement's been made...

Not that most gaming groups have the funds or inclination to take them to court over it, but it's quite scary just how informal an agreement can fall under contract law, as I'm discovering in my evening classes at the moment.

I've got a feeling that if the organisers do end up having to pay extra for their replacement venues, they probably do have a reasonable argument for chasing that manager for the difference in costs...

Not entirely sure, of course, I'm no lawyer - but getting receipts is no great hardship, and would mean they've got proof of the costs involved.
