Celtic = Enya??

Alright, now much as I love this PBS special and I think the performers on it (especially Meav, whom I adore, and Mairead Nesbitt) are amazingly talented, if it's supposed to be a showcase of Celtic music, why in the name of all that is holy is a decent portion of the repertoire random new age or classical crossover muzak shite? I like Enya well ( Read more... )

Argh! Yes! That's exactly my reaction to this special. Except much more articulate, where mine was just "OMGWTFRARGHSTABINATE."

Word, word, word on "Orinoco Flow," and the Josh Groban song was so very WTFy as far as why in hell it was included.

The thing that is SO FRAKKING ANNOYING is that I looove love love Orla's "Siuil a Run" and Meav's "She Moved Thru the Fair" and "Si Do Mhaimeo" and the fiddle solos are awesome, and then it's like "hey, let's gratutiously throw in some Ave Maria!" and "hey look, Enya's Irish!" and it makes me want to slam my head through my cable box in the hope that it'll stop.

*sighs* And yet, I own the CD because I cannot help it and I love Meav and want her to be massively successful here so I can see her live someday.

Because they wanted to attract all of the Josh Groban fangirls and old ladies that heart him?

And they are Irish singers. That must make insta!Celtic music. It's their accents or something.

(I need to stop making stupid comments about the place and finish my final, don't I?)

Honestly, that's what it was. They must have figured that since they're Irish they could sing anything and it's still "Celtic music".

I have to listen to Enya at work during business hours, but it is better than my previous job where I listened to Josh Groban nonstop.

You know, I actually think I'd take Josh Groban over Enya.
