The birthday party was nice except my father didn't show up and since he was supposed to give other family members a ride, it was just the three of us in the end. But the baby had fun and he was really adorable all afternoon.

Oh, I know the neighborhood. I lived next to Place Denfert Rochereau for 5 years, we're a little further South now. Did you live in Paris for 2 years?

well it's too bad your father didn't make it--sort of strange. is that normal for him? i'm glad the baby had fun. enzo's 2nd birthday was so fun--he was in a great mood and just enthralled by the unwrapping of stuff. and jenn (my sis in law) made a silly train shaped caked which was cute and delicious!

i was in paris from august 1988 to july 1989 so not quite a full year at that point, but i spent the summer of 1983 in st germaine en laye living with a family. and i've been back 3 other times each time for at least a month. so i feel like i know paris pretty well. or at least parts of it. i really love it there.

and the last time i was in france in '04 i also got to spend a couple of weeks in the south in alès. my host mom was very lovely to me and took me around. so i got to revisit arles and avignon and nîmes. oh que j'adore provence! it's really my dream to one day retire in the south and live out my days under provençal skies.....
