Grump. The novel-length Harry Potter fanfic I'm reading today (shut up, I have a fever) has Buffy characters stuck in at random, for no good reason. From the dictionary:

1) fan (noun) An ardent devotee; an enthusiast. [short for fanatic.]
2) fanatic (noun) A person marked or motivated by an extreme, unreasoning enthusiasm, as for a cause.

So, I guess that answers the question of why they do it. And furthermore, if they are fanatics about both Harry Potter and Buffy, well the above also explains it.

Ooh! Ooh! Ooh! What are you reading? What's the title? That sounds SO right up my alley. Often when I am reading HP and going through a Buffy-watching phase, I have a hard time keeping the plot lines seperate in my head...so it would probably make total sense to me if suddenly Buffy and Spike showed up in the middle of the story.
