Not-So-Subtle Hint

Any computer-rich people or companies looking for a charitable contribution tax write-off are SO VERY WELCOME to provide this wonderful social services 501(c)(3) non-profit organization with a server. Or pretty much any decent computer hardware for that matter.

How much server do you need? I have some antiques, but probably not worth the cost of shipping (dual P2 333mhz and 512MB ram was cool, once upon a time).

I'm not sure, now you mention it. I should ask for geek input on that one, having never actually set up a server all by myself.

I plan to use it as a file server for between 15 and 20 computers... if it could also be a printer server that'd be grand... also if it could be an Exchange server so we can have a damned global address list and stuff... but the file server bit is most important.

Parts would be great... and I'm honestly not sure how much server we need. We're definitely at the "anything is better than nothing, which is what we have" point, but that rather quickly turns to "we have something, but now we want something which comes a lot closer to meeting our needs" and I'd like to minimize the gap between "something" and "good enough at least for now."

We're members of TechSoup (great discounts on software, not much in the way of hardware that we need) ... I'll fire up Exploder and check the National Cristina Foundation. Thanks!
