Chii knocked on Ryo’s door nervously; he didn’t know how he was going to do this…
Ryo opened the door curiously, Momo-chan, the flying squirrel perched on his shoulder and his dog Koko in his arms. He blinked, “Yuri…I thought you went to visit your family…”
Chii shifted uneasily, “I was…I just missed you so much I had to come back…”
Ryo smiled, setting Koko down, he held out his arms, “Come here…I missed you…”
Chii hugged the taller boy, “I didn’t want to go…”
Ryo felt Chii shaking, he held him close, “what’s wrong…” he kissed Chii’s hair, he was worried…
Chii tried to relax into Ryo’s arms but he couldn’t, his body was quaking like it was caught in a storm. How was he going to tell him, he didn’t want to lose his friendship…
Ryo led his friend to the couch, “Are you okay…you said you came right back was it a bad trip…”
Chii shook his head, “It was a safe flight…Keito…” he covered his mouth with his hand he didn’t mean to mention Keito…
Ryo blinked, “what about Keito…”
Chii looked away; “He came back for Yuto…” it wasn’t his place to tell Ryo what Keito was…
Ryo knew that wasn’t the whole truth; there was something special about some of the guys in their group. He reached for Chii’s hand, “Do you want something to drink…”
Chii bit his lip, “Just water…” drinking other things wasn’t healthy…
Ryo nodded, “We have plenty of that.” he kissed Chii’s cheek and went to get him a glass.
Chii spotted a small bonsai tree on a shelf, he walked towards it. He caressed the leaves gently communing with his fellow tree; he learned it was treated well. He turned smiling at Ryo’s footsteps.
Ryo blinked as Chii’s hair was blown by an unseen wind, they were inside…it moved like leaves of petals in the breeze. He watched as a single piece of hair fell and flutter to the floor. It shimmered and became a leave, the leaf of a cherry tree…
Chii hardly noticed the leave had fallen until he saw it reflected in Ryo’s eyes, he blushed, “I can explain…”
Ryo tilted his head, “How does hair become a leaf…” it wasn’t possible…
Chii bent down and picked up the leaf, he caressed it; it was a part of him. He held it out, “it’s real…not a trick. Your eyes aren’t playing tricks…”
Ryo stared at the leaf and then looked in Chii’s eyes, he saw fear. Why? Was Chii afraid of him?
Chii shook his head, “I’m not afraid of you…I don’t know how to tell you the truth…”
Ryo reached for the leaf, “It’s yours…”
Chii nodded, “I’m a tree-spirit. My life is bond to my tree, if anyone ever cut it down I would die.” He disappear, the only proof of his existence would be memories and a tree stump.
Ryo couldn’t believe it; he was in love with a tree? Chii was a person to him, someone he cared deeply for…he was beautiful…like a blossom. He still couldn’t believe it…
Chii’s eyes filled with tears, he had been afraid of his reaction…
Ryo spotted the tears, he made Chii cry?
Chii was almost rooted to the spot, maybe Ryu was right…maybe they can’t understand, “I’ll go…”
Ryo reached for Chii to stop him, “Don’t go…please…it’s hard to understand…but don’t go…”
Chii wilted to the ground, “I wanted to tell you because I care a lot for you…”
Ryo knew he loved Chii before he knew what he was; could he still love him…he didn’t know. He just didn’t want Chii to leave…he begged, “Please stay with me…” now he knew why Chii always smelled like cherry blossoms, it wasn’t perfume it was himself. He hugged Chii, “I don’t hate you…”
Chii let Ryo hold him, “I couldn’t live if you did…” the sadness would eat him like a cancer…
They sat there holding each other…
Chii’s mind was far away…
