Halloween 1981: Five Ways It Could Have Gone Better by
shaggydogstail (Fandom: Harry Potter, Pairings: Remus Lupin/Sirius Black, unrequited Severus Snape/Lily Evans, unrequited Severus Snape/Peter Pettigrew, Rating: Soft R, Status: 1 Part, Complete)
The title says it all, really. Five different, hilarious versions of Halloween night, 1981, involving Peter's jaunty new bus-attracting cap, Voldemort's Evil Laughs for Evil Men: Your Cackle is Your Friend, Remus' screenprinting class, Dumbledore's Who's Got The Silliest Hat? competition, and baby Harry's proficiency for puking on Slytherin scarves.

He Deserved It by duanya_lesfics (Fandom: Harry Potter, Pairing: Remus Lupin/Sirius Black, Rating: PG-13, Status: 1 Part, Complete)
"Sirius reeled back from the scene, blushing scarlet. It wasn’t the violence that made him blush - he’d been punching people in the face since the tender age of seven, and had since progressed onto bigger methods of injury."

He Succumbs, Reluctantly by
fiercefragile (Fandom: Harry Potter, Pairing: Remus Lupin/Sirius Black, Rating: PG, Status: 1 Part, Complete)
"Beside him, the Transfiguration essay lies in silent contempt, the empty parchment judging him and finding him wanting. Normally, Remus would panic, but he cannot be bothered with homework now, as Sirius' every touch confuses physical properties, and he forgets the most basic of switching spells, lying ignorant as a first year in a world of breath and touch, eyes glassy, mouth slightly open, eager."

Hogmanay by
jynx709 (Fandom: Harry Potter, Pairing: Remus Lupin/Sirius Black, Rating: NC-17, Status: 1 Part, Complete)
"The entire plan, with full orchestration and five-part harmony, was completely shagged, very metaphorically speaking. He’d managed to speak to Remus briefly when he arrived, before one of James’ girl cousins from Scotland of all places, attached herself to Remus hip and stayed there.
Made sense really, they probably had all sorts of Scottish things to talk about, like the subtle difference in Speyside malts (which did not exist, no matter what Remus said) and how to make Scottish babies. He sensed James’ interference with the girlthing. Bastard! He’d hex him later."

Home by
kyasuriin (Fandom: Harry Potter, Pairing: Remus Lupin/Sirius Black, Rating: R, Status: 1 Part, Complete)
"The yellow paint in the bathroom was faded just enough from sunlight to match the robin’s egg blue tiles. The curtains were getting worn but when they were partially closed they let in the perfect amount of sunlight on a Sunday morning for a fantastic soak in the tub with a novel. This was precisely what Remus was doing when there was a pecking at the dusty window. He nearly dropped his book into the soapy water in alarm but managed to save it just in time. He sighed softly and set the novel on the wicker end table beside the tub. Wrapping a towel around himself hastily he pulled the window open and let the tawny owl inside. It dropped the letter into his outstretched hand and settled itself on the edge of the tub. Remus gave him a pointed look that told him not to even think about having a bath before opening the letter (addressed to: Remus J. Lupin, The Clawfoot Tub in the Yellow Bathroom, The Cottage Over the Hill, Rottingdean, East Sussex.)"

Hope is the Thing with Feathers by
oddsbobs (Fandom: Harry Potter, Pairing: Remus Lupin/Sirius Black, Rating: PG-13, Status: 10 Parts plus Interlude, Complete)
"Harry had never seen Lupin look so terrifying before. He had straightened to his full height, his muscles were all tensed, and he gave off a magical energy that crackled in the air. There was a sneer on Lupin’s face that showed far too many teeth. The worst part was his eyes. They were like stone and fire at the same time, nearly golden in their intensity. Harry had only seen eyes like that when Sirius tried to kill Wormtail in the Shrieking Shack.
With a swish of his robes that would have made Snape proud, Lupin strode back to the others, grasped Harry’s trunk, and heaved it up the stairs. Harry, Tonks, and the Weasleys were all frozen in place. Lupin had either shocked Mrs. Black speechless or had finally found a way to silence her with magic. Her eyes were still staring at where Lupin had been standing, her mouth was slightly open, and she could only emit strange gargles and huffs."
Three points: 1) It's Bring Back Black fic. 2) It has one of the best plots of any fic ever. 3) Remus is crazily, scarily powerful, and believably so.

How Sirius Came to Say 'I Love You' by
sheafrotherdon (Fandom: Harry Potter, Pairing: Remus Lupin/Sirius Black, Rating: G, Status: 1 Part, Complete)
"It’s really quite uncomfortable, lying carefully in a bed that’s only big enough for them both when they’re a tangle of limbs. The infirmary beds are wider and less rumpled and they’re soft and they smell good. That ought to make them preferable, but they lack the better parts of gangly young men with January eyes and whiffling snores, even if those boys are taking up far more than their share of the mattress. Remus fumbles until his hand closes over Sirius’, and holds on tight against the pain he still feels. The swap is comfort for comfort, and he’d rather be anchored by touch right now than sleep in the the widest bed in the world."

I Hear A Symphony by
shaggydogstail (Fandom: Harry Potter, Pairing: Remus Lupin/Sirius Black, Rating: PG-13, Status: 1 Part, Complete)
"The Music Charms continued through the rest of the day. The secret to the continuing success of this scheme - as was so often the secret of how the Marauders kept out of really bad trouble - was to keep the teachers on side. Professor Dumbledore was openly delighted by his chorus of chamber music, while Professor McGonagall made a poor job of hiding her pleasure at the reel that rang out when she entered the Transfiguration classroom. With the exception of the unfortunate Slytherins, most of the students were delighted by their own ‘theme tunes’. James and Sirius stomped up and down the corridors self-importantly to the sound of clashing cymbals and thundering drums, Remus swayed slightly to jazz piano and Peter danced excitedly to a vigorous sea-shanty. Best of all, sometimes the music of two Charmed individuals merged, producing a comically doom-laden wah-wah-waah when a professor approached their least-favourite students."

I Would Like To by
molly_commas (Fandom: Harry Potter, Pairing: Remus Lupin/Sirius Black, Rating: PG-13, Status: 1 Part, Complete)
"It was just after one in the morning, and Sirius lay on the bed like a typo, the open parenthesis of his body curved inward. Remus - the Remus who most mornings sipped tea and solved the crosswords in the paper, who proofread his reports to Dumbledore at least twice, even as he bled on the parchment - wanted to take up the spot beside Sirius, so that at least they could be an empty set together."
This is one of those fics that absolutely tears you up and makes you want to scream at the characters because it hurts, but in a really good way.

Icarus by
xmindthegapx (Fandom: Harry Potter, Pairing: Remus Lupin/Sirius Black, Rating: PG-13, Status: 1 Part, Complete)
'"Haven't you heard?" Remus whispered back, laughing nervously. "I'm like unto a God."
"You are. You are."
Remus only grasped him tighter, his heart sinking to the pit of his stomach. The man in his arms was like sand: He was slipping away, further and further, and Remus clawed at him ferociously, only to find his efforts futile, granular.
He clenched his arms around the other, letting his mind drift, keeping his body tense, hoping that this feeling that everything was only temporary would leave if he only closed his eyes and hoped.'

He settles for, I want you instead, and opens his mouth to breathe the words to Remus' neck. Remus moves his head at that moment though, pressing his own open mouth urgently against Sirius' and the words are lost.
A gritty, realistic, painful group of stories set in the first war.

An Inconsistant Force by
pink_faerie81 (Fandom: Harry Potter, Pairing: Remus Lupin/Sirius Black, Rating: R, Status: 1 Part, Complete)
"If nothing else, he has slowly learnt from his years with James and Peter and (most of all) Sirius to not worry as much over the things he cannot control. The annual frost, the inevitable end of all things, the day when they will no longer love each other... these things will all come regardless of what Remus says or does. So he just lies there, tracing idle circles between Sirius’ shoulder blades and waiting for the imminent fall."

Innocence by

"But one day when the snow falls around the windowsill like gentle handprints, feeling their crystalline palms against the tower glass, touching, exploring every line of tree and school and eyelash; he unties the ribbons and slits the yellowing tape."

Into the Darkness by
old_light (Fandom: Harry Potter, Pairing: Remus Lupin/Sirius Black, Rating: PG-13, Status: 1 Part, Complete)
"Inside the gently rocking carriage there was warmth and light. Sirius lay across the table from him, his body sprawled over two seats, head gently inclined in slumber, black hair tousled. For the first time that day he looked vulnerable. As if, before long, the daily horrors of this war would catch up with him and he would finally see. And fall."
A devastating look at their relationship in the middle of the first war from Remus' point of view. Realistic, and not a little bit angsty.

It's True! It's True! by
sleeper6 (Fandom: Harry Potter, Pairing: Remus Lupin/Sirius Black, Rating: PG-13, Status: 1 Part, Complete)
"But Regulus didn't believe his own words. Before Sirius moved out, Regulus had been close enough to his brother to suspect. He had never heard Sirius talk about girls, certainly not in the way his fellow Slytherins did. Regulus had asked him for advice on a girl, but Sirius avoided the question all twelve times, choosing instead to teach his younger brother the proper way to comb his hair. Consequently, sixteen-year-old Regulus Black had yet to kiss a girl but did boast the second-best hairstyle at Hogwarts."

Knowing by
sheafrotherdon (Fandom: Harry Potter, Pairing: Remus Lupin/Sirius Black, Rating: PG, Status: 1 Part, Complete)
"He can’t return to Grimmauld Place that night - fears the thief who would rob him of memory, already deadening the skin at his palm. Where elbow, shoulder, hip and knee had trembled, pressed into the pleading arc of his open hand, there is nothing left but a twisting echo. He walks, bewildered, grinds denial beneath his feet for mile after mile of litter-strewn pavement. He tries to evade, but grief steals kisses from the jut of his elbow, from the soft, shy skin of his upper arm. Early summer is restless around him, but the curve of his spine is quiet with cold."
There needs to be more Bring Back Black fic like this. It's simple and beautiful and very, very human.

Le Jour où la Pluie Viendra by
liadlaith (Fandom: Harry Potter, Pairing: Remus Lupin/Sirius Black, Rating: NC-17, Status: 1 Part, Complete)
"And we’re off, running as silently as sixteen year-olds can on stone floors, stifling slightly hysterical laughter. James and Peter peel off with a nod (divide and conquer) and then Moony’s running ahead of me, Gryffindor scarf streaming out behind him like a battle pennant. I follow the flag.
He slips behind a statue and pulls me in with him, and we squeeze into the shadows. I’m convulsing with laughter and he pushes a hand against my mouth, looking out on to the corridor, attempting to play calm tactician. The one-eyed man reigning in the kingdom of the blind: his face is flushed and he’s breathing heavily against me, a feral look in his eye as he glances over and grins and suddenly I can feel every part of me that’s touching him."

Legacy by
busaikko (Fandom: Harry Potter, Pairings: Remus Lupin/Sirius Black, Remus Lupin/Nymphadora Tonks, OFC/OFC, Rating: PG, Status: 1 Part, Complete)
This is one of those really touching stories that make you want to read them again and again. Despite the fact that it's a little angsty, the overwhelming love in it is what will make you go back to read it repeatedly. Besides that, it has a take on Remus and Tonks' relationship that's inoffensive to even the most diehard of Remus/Sirius shippers, and deals with the adoption of bitten children, which is just sweet.

Let the Water Hold You Down by
lupinslittlesis (Fandom: Harry Potter, Pairings: Remus Lupin/Sirius Black, unrequited Remus Lupin/Peter Pettigrew, Rating: light R, Status: 2 Parts, Complete)
'Professor Sinti was ignoring them, and turning the cards over for Sirius, who was watching with an amused air. "I see death," he repeated.
"Well, sure," Sirius said casually. "We're all going to die at some point."
Professor Sinti shook his head. "I see a death by a passage to another plane. I see long years of loneliness and pain and suffering and betrayal. I see the fabric of time and space ripping away."
"I see a few too many drinks in the past," Remus whispered, but he stared back when Professor Sinti turned eyes on him. "How am I going to die?" he asked.'
A really excellently handled AU that defies the fandom cliche that if events had been altered that reality would not be so grim. All of the characters are handled amazingly well, and the plot is perfectly thought out; each event has an identifiable cause, and it comes off as extraordinarily plausible.

Lettering by
oracularpaige (Fandom: Harry Potter, Pairing: Remus Lupin/Sirius Black, Remus Lupin/OFC, Rating: PG-13, Status: 1 Part, Complete)
"Sirius had strongly suspected for awhile that Remus might have the same problem with drinking as himself - that problem being he could drink a great deal of alcohol without a problem. He did the mental math when Remus finally looked up, seeing how clear Remus’ eyes still were compared to how much of the whiskey had been consumed, and considered his suspicion confirmed. Remus’ readers were sliding down his nose, on their way to falling off, and instead of reaching across the table and pushing them up as he probably should have done, he did what was more in his nature, however much he hated himself at times for it, and spoke instead."
