It dropped the letter into his outstretched hand and settled itself on the edge of the tub. Remus gave him a pointed look that told him not to even think about having a bath before opening the letter (addressed to: Remus J. Harry had only seen eyes like that when Sirius tried to kill Wormtail in the Shrieking Shack.
With a swish of his robes that would have made Snape proud, Lupin strode back to the others, grasped Harry’s trunk, and heaved it up the stairs. Harry, Tonks, and the Weasleys were all frozen in place. Lupin had either shocked Mrs. Black speechless or had finally found a way to silence her with magic. Her eyes were still staring at where Lupin had been standing, her mouth was slightly open, and she could only emit strange gargles and huffs."
Three points: 1) It's Bring Back Black fic. 2) It has one of the best plots of any fic ever. 3) Remus is crazily, scarily powerful, and believably so.

Best of all, sometimes the music of two Charmed individuals merged, producing a comically doom-laden wah-wah-waah when a professor approached their least-favourite students."

This is one of those fics that absolutely tears you up and makes you want to scream at the characters because it hurts, but in a really good way.

Besides that, it has a take on Remus and Tonks' relationship that's inoffensive to even the most diehard of Remus/Sirius shippers, and deals with the adoption of bitten children, which is just sweet.

A really excellently handled AU that defies the fandom cliche that if events had been altered that reality would not be so grim. All of the characters are handled amazingly well, and the plot is perfectly thought out; each event has an identifiable cause, and it comes off as extraordinarily plausible.

There needs to be more Bring Back Black fic like this. It's simple and beautiful and very, very human.

The one-eyed man reigning in the kingdom of the blind: his face is flushed and he’s breathing heavily against me, a feral look in his eye as he glances over and grins and suddenly I can feel every part of me that’s touching him."

This is one of those really touching stories that make you want to read them again and again. Despite the fact that it's a little angsty, the overwhelming love in it is what will make you go back to read it repeatedly. Besides that, it has a take on Remus and Tonks' relationship that's inoffensive to even the most diehard of Remus/Sirius shippers, and deals with the adoption of bitten children, which is just sweet.

Professor Sinti shook his head. "I see a death by a passage to another plane. I see long years of loneliness and pain and suffering and betrayal. I see the fabric of time and space ripping away."
"I see a few too many drinks in the past," Remus whispered, but he stared back when Professor Sinti turned eyes on him. "How am I going to die?" he asked.'
A really excellently handled AU that defies the fandom cliche that if events had been altered that reality would not be so grim. All of the characters are handled amazingly well, and the plot is perfectly thought out; each event has an identifiable cause, and it comes off as extraordinarily plausible.

"Sirius had strongly suspected for awhile that Remus might have the same problem with drinking as himself - that problem being he could drink a great deal of alcohol without a problem. He did the mental math when Remus finally looked up, seeing how clear Remus’ eyes still were compared to how much of the whiskey had been consumed, and considered his suspicion confirmed. Remus’ readers were sliding down his nose, on their way to falling off, and instead of reaching across the table and pushing them up as he probably should have done, he did what was more in his nature, however much he hated himself at times for it, and spoke instead."
