Prompt Used: Ailee - I Will Show You (Supplementary Prompt #2)

Boyband ZE:A to Disband

ZE:A celebrated their five-year anniversary with a surprise guerilla concert for their fans on January 15th.

Held in front of the Migliore Mall, the boys battled the freezing temperature along with their fans,performing a total of fifteen tracks, including all promotional singles, such as debut track "Mazeltov".

Unfortunately, ZE:A have also announced that they will be disbanding as a group.

Their agency, Star Empire, revealed that ZE:A5, consisting of Kevin, Siwan, Hyungshik, Minwoo and Dongjun, will continue promotions as a group due to their success, whilst Kwanghee, Junyoung, Heechul and Taehun will concentrate on individual activities instead.

Leader Junyoung commented, "We feel sad that this is the last time we'll all perform together, but we're happy and very thankful to all the fans who came out to support us."

Kevin continued, "Performing on a wingcar makes us very nostalgic, since we travelled across Korea predebut in a wingcar, giving performances to gain experience,: while Minwoo added, "I still can't believe it's been five years since we've debuted."

Labelmate Nine Muses also made a surprise appearance.

ZE:A5 will be making their comeback next month.

The articles provide enough information for fans around the world, but they don't mention how Junyoung starts to sob silently halfway through Here I Am, how it sets off a chain reaction, how by the time they're finished with Phoenix, Junyoung is already sitting on the edge of the stage, head down and shoulders shaking as he bawls ("resident crybaby!" they all jest later), whilst the eight other boys stand in their ending pose: tall, proud, and with tears tracking down their crumpled faces.

On the ride back to the dorm, as always, Kwanghee tries to squeeze himself next to Siwan. But, unlike always, Siwan lets himself be manhandled by Kwanghee. Kwanghee takes Siwan's hand and keeps it in his, and together they watch the throngs of teary fans through the windows of the van.

And Kwanghee laughs, blows kisses, and waves with his free hand, all the while thinking "it isn't supposed to be like this."

~~~~
Two weeks later, the dorm is cleared out and they’re ready to separate. Junyoung's going to compose songs before he attempts a solo debut that CEO Shin promises to journalists "will be a fresh new sound, never attempted before in kpop!" Taehun's going to spend more time with his sister, now that he's finally free to. Heechul is going back to school. And Kwanghee - Kwanghee is no longer a singer but a comedian in the variety world, no longer introducing himself as a member of ZE:A.
~~~~

It is their last night together, and Kwanghee clambers over from his top bunk to Siwan's, shoving an oversized hoodie at him and pulling him out of the room, out of the dorm, out into the night.

With the entire sky to themselves as they roam aimlessly, Siwan and Kwanghee end up sitting on the kerb outside of 7-11, sharing a cup of instant noodles, just like old times. There are no stars to wish upon, but Kwanghee sees a 747 blinking across the velvet night, and it's good enough for him.

"Make a wish," he whispers, closing his eyes and missing how Siwan glances at him and mouths "still ridiculous after all these years."

"What did you wish for, then?" Siwan asks as they stroll back to the dorm for the last time, dwindling to a sad end.

"For us to be together, forever."

"ZE:A5 doesn't change anything, we will still be together no matter what, ok?"

It's an unattainable wish, but Kwanghee still believes in it like nothing else.
"Don't forget ZE:A," Kwanghee says, pulling him in for a hug.
Don't forget us, he adds, silently.

"I won't," Siwan says. "We should get back."

Kwanghee sighs against Siwan's back, and, even though it is the last thing he wants to do, lets him go.

~~~~
Kwanghee keeps pausing at the bathroom door every morning before entering, waiting for the trampling of the maknaes' feet as they all fight for the first shower, for the shouting and laughter in the living room, for their manager to come around spraying water everywhere to hurry them up because they were late for the next schedule, for Siwan to step out of the kitchen with two big mugs of coffee and a sleepy smile only for him.
I'll get used to it in time, Kwanghee thinks to himself as he gets ready to head over to Junyoung's studio apartment.
"I'll do the soba and you get bread?" Kwanghee asks as it nears dinner time. "I want the multigrain loaf in the purple packaging. Can you also get some more sesame seeds? Minwoo and Siwan love that," he continues, pausing as both he and Junyoung are reminded of that time they had a fight over whether they should spend their last dollars on a packet of sesame seeds that nobody else liked or a drink for all of them to share.
(They got the sesame seeds in the end, because who coud resist Minwoo's aegyo and Siwan's constant threats of violence?)
"I'll get the bread," Junyoung smiles sadly, squeezing Kwanghee's shoulders gently before leaving to grab his coat.
~~~~

Kwanghee is forgetting Siwan, little by little.

~~~~
Most of the time, Kwanghee is fine and he doesn't think about it, but sometimes he lets himself remember life before. Siwan is suddenly back - in the pair of sunglasses that Kwanghee hated but Siwan insisted he buy, in the crack on the side of the mug that Siwan dropped two years ago when Kwanghee came into the room with a surprise birthday cake, in the hideous sweatshirt that Kwanghee found in his closet, left behind like little pieces of his heart that Siwan didn't take with him.
~~~~

Kwanghee rents a caravan and kidnaps Siwan on one of the rare days he's back, driving to the mountains after making him promise not to worry about work. They lay blankets on the grass and watch meteors cascade across the sky.

"It's so lonely without you," Kwanghee whispers, yet Siwan says nothing.

Kwanghee watches the meteors, a burning culmination of what they used to be, fizzling to an end and falling off the world.

He takes a mental snapshot of Siwan; tired, vulnerable, but so beautiful, as the chill of the night tentatively wraps around both of them.

Siwan's phone vibrates, and before Kwanghee can say "don't," Siwan reads the message and tells Kwanghee that he needs to go back to the company.

The meteor shower turns out to be a nuclear test.

~~~~
The next time they spend time together, they will forget each other just a little bit more.
~~~~

Seven months after the official split, Junyoung records his first solo album, with Heechul and Taehun guesting on track 3 and a hidden track for the Japanese release. Kwanghee sits with the three of them, and their respective managers, in the new bulgolgi place that Heechul claimed was "the best ever."

The meat looks great, smells great, and should taste great too, but all Kwanghee can taste is the five empty spaces left behind by those who are busy with showcase preparations.

~~~~
Kwanghee receives a "Happy birthday, sorry for forgetting! Hope you are well ~!" text from Siwan on the 29th of September.
His birthday was on the 25th of August.
~~~~

A week before the release of ZE:A5’s special Best Of album, a copy of the CD (signed, of course) is express-mailed to Junyoung's apartment, with Kwanghee, Heechul and Taehun's name on it as well.

Junyoung summons them all for dinner, and he Skypes the other five, who are in a hotel in Singapore. Kwanghee has a million and one things to share with them, but he says nothing as all he sees are five ecstatic strangers, all scrabbling to tell them about how fun the fanmeet was, how amazing their apartment looks now they have new sponsors, how incredible the sales have been, how much of a great time they're having.

Junyoung turns the microphone down so they can't hear Taehun sniffling in the back.

~~~~
Kwanghee watches ZE:A5's fourth comeback performance live on TV with Heechul in his little apartment.
"You'd think I'd have found better things to do than to only guest on occasional radio shows," Heechul says. "I miss everything and everyone so much."
Kwanghee leans against Heechul, listening to the fans chant five names instead of nine, and says nothing.
~~~~

"Congrats on the win!!!" Kwanghee texts Siwan, then turns off his phone.

~~~~
Kwanghee collects memories like little baby teeth from years and years ago. Sometimes when he is alone, he pours out the teeth carefully and holds it in his hand, marveling at each one as he recalls their stories.
~~~~

Kwanghee chances upon Siwan one day as he heads up to studio 34 for makeup and hair. Siwan is someone Kwanghee barely remembers nor knows, but he is laughing and smiling, so Kwanghee forces a grin onto his face.

Because if Siwan is having a great life (without him), even though it hurts, even though he was the one who brought ZE:A to the spotlight, even though he deserves to be singing and dancing on the stage instead of sitting on the back row of late night talk shows, Kwanghee should be happy that Siwan's happy, right?

"It's been a while, Woongjae!" he smiles.

Kwanghee rests the tips of his fingers on Siwan's cheek,

softly,

ever so softly,

but he is

already

vanishing.

a/n: woongjae = siwan's birth name
