microwaveable breakfast sandwiches?

Nov 10, 2008 08:22

I've been trying to find a kosher version of an egg-and-cheese sandwich, akin to an Egg McMuffin, that I can buy a box of and take to work for breakfast. (I work 7:30-11:30 at a Jewish organization with a kosher microwave.) So far I've not been able to find anything (though I have yet to check the Butcherie), and Google has failed me. And my ( Read more... )

Are there any kosher Dunkin' Donuts in the area? Or maybe a kosher bagel shop? A lot of them will do egg sandwiches.

Not on my way to work, alas. :( (Chinese food, yes, but they don't open till 11-ish.)

The closest on this list are the two Newton Centre bakeries, and that would add another 30 minutes to my commute because of local traffic patterns. :(

Actually, at this point, I think that there's no kosher Dunkies here any more. There is the donut shop Donuts With a Difference (not so far from you, but not in the right direction), but I think the extent of their 'real' food is bagel + schmear, though I might be wrong about that - I've only gone there for donuts :-)

Actually, I do skirt Medford Square on my way out, but I'm not sure D-with-a-D is open that early.

you might be better off investing in a cheap-o pan and spatula at a discount store and making your own eggs at home - fry them and then put them in ziploc bags, bring them to work, throw them with a pre-sliced slice of cheese on an english muffin and toss the whole thing in the microwave. it'll be healthier and tastier than frozen ones anyway. alternately you can buy one of those plastic things you can use to make eggs in the microwave, to keep at work. i saw them at target the other day, i think. just keep a thing of english muffins and some eggs at work and you'll be set.

There is a brand of burritos -- The Old City Cafe -- which are dairy and one of the flavors is breakfast burrito, I believe. Aunt Jemima has a bunch of kosher stuff, I'm sure you can find something palatable in their line-up. IIRC the french toast isn't too bad.

I also pack bagel sandwiches for my kids all the time for their lunch. I make one-egg omelets and place on a store brand toasted bagel with a slice of cheese. In the morning I microwave and wrap in tin foil.

Could you buy a microwave egg poacher? They're super cheap, and you can usually find them in the grocery where in the aisle where the breakfast foods are.

That way you can just buy your English muffins, cheese and a dozen eggs and keep them in the kitchen at work (assuming that your kitchen has a fridge... If not, the egg transportation might be a problem).

Amy's brand organic stuff is mostly kosher, and includes burritos, if those are acceptable breakfast sandwiches (also a variety of pot pies and some pareve or milchig entrees)

I have seen them with a hechsher in the past (I'm blanking on which one), but in rechecking online, there's no mention of kashrut, so I've just sent them an email. Will post a comment when I get their reply.
