I have finally, finally sorted my messy stacks of comics, fished out all the Superboys and all the relevant cross-overs he participated in, and I am now going to read them all in chronological order, in hopes that I will finally be able to make sense of wtf is even going on with him

I think you can read alot of his grim angstiness, and especially his sullen and combative attitude towards other people, as stemming from that. Old-Kon had self-esteem issues aplenty, but he still believed he could be something good, and tried to live up to that. This one doesn't have anything to live up to, but seems to yearn for it unconsciously?
There's some rather inconsistent characterization going on between his own comic/Teen Titans and his appearances in Superman, where he's milder and his attitude comes off as more sullen snarky bravado. Which is probably due to different writers, but could be spun into Superman just having that effect on him--because Kon wants to believe in heroes ( ... )

Also: Aaaarchiiiiiiieeeee ;_______________; Yes, like or hate, definitely one of the two. It's more like comfort/hurt though, given the order of things and how it ended. Or maybe hurt/comfort/hurt.
