Well, if you want me to go into it, Axel is biologically female, but in a grey area inside. Axel feels that something is wrong with Axel's body, and Axel fantasises about actually getting an operation, especially during sex. But Axel isn't quite there, not ready at all to vocalise it. It's very mixed up, especially because Axel loves Roxas very much, and Roxas is a straight male. Axel is full of conflicting thoughts about Axel's self and sexuality and gender, and all Axel knows is that there's something wrong and it feels wrong. Hence the shame and silence. I imagined that this Axel, this individual I wrote, (and not dictating what I believe other individuals should experience or choose at any given point of their lives or levels of experience) still refers to their own self with the pronoun 'she' because of Axel's own life and experience and personal feelings at this point in time
