My senior year of high school, I took econ. My teacher spent time to teach the class how to write and endorse checks, gave us an introduction to insurance, and various other things that have continued to be helpful as I grow into adulthood.
At the time, I thought that was part of the curriculum. I have since learned how rare that was, and what a great thing. I wish I had that teacher's contact information, so I could thank him. I have customers that come into my store that are older than me that have no idea how to write a check. It is sad.
I'm pretty much convinced that the investment banking and lending industries would lobby pretty hard to keep actual financial curriculum out of public schools. Maybe they already are.
