I was thinking that, if you reduce your enemy (or opponent) to a single dimension (evil, greedy, cruel) you not only miss his other dimensions (which make him human and understandable) but you also allow him to create the version of himself that lives in your mind

Never underestimate an opponent. Nobody's a cardboard cutout...well, unless one gets one's jollies from fighting actual cardboard cutouts, I suppose.

(I've known him since the heyday of USENET, from talk.bizarre, back in... um... 1994? We met when I went out to a weekend-long party & wedding at dcurtisj's -- AKA Crisper Than Thou -- place... dcurtisj being the one who got married... in 1995. I think.)
