after watching the replay of the australia v croatia game, i'm confused.

1: why was emmerton carded for a handball? it's not like he did it on purpose from what i saw.

2: why was our final goal disallowed?

3: why was schwarzer on the bench?

4: why did croatia get the free kick when it was clear that viduka was being held?

5: why do we get ( Read more... )

Yeah, I'm curious about that last goal myself. Was he offside? He didn't look it ...

i didn't see anyone offside. and i didn't see the linesman's flag go up either. it's all very confusing.

what counts though is that we made it through the group stage. and frankly, that's all that matters anymore :)

Listening to the announcers and their role calls over the last 15 days, I've heard: Rangers, Celtic, Gretna, Falkirk, Hibernians ... are there any bloody Scots left playing football in Scotland at all?

And at least one plays for Australia, judging by Craig Moore's accent ...

I asked my kids about the last goal, because I was already running around the house like a madman celebrating as soon as it went in. Apparently the ref had blown full time, which is pretty poor timing because the play was at an intense moment.

The red card for the handball was, as you say stupid. He stood there and the ball got booted into his arm.

But we're through so we can't whinge really.

I thought it was because he'd blown full time already as well. But, then didn't he go and give one of the Croatians a red card after disallowing the goal. Why did he give a red card after ending the game and why did he give it to the team not going through to the 16?

see, thing is, i heard the whistle blow after the ball had hit the net. or at the same time. i can't remember exactly. if it's allowed in AFL or RUGBYwhen the ball is still in the air at the final whistle, then that goal should have been permitted (but, we still got through so i should be over it *shurgs*)

as for Simunic. He'd been carded twice and should have left the field. the ref was a fuck up in a lot of respects during that game, so i'm not surprised that he messed up the fact that we had two opportunities where it would have been a clear win as opposed to a draw.

oh well, we now have a chance at the quarter finals! oh, of course, we have to beat italy first. minor set back there.
