“I don’t think that’s possible.” He’d only known a few women who had scared him off. One had been looking for someone making considerably more money than he had been making, and after having set himself up to be something other than what he was, Tomi had quickly turned tail in order to avoid what would have been a disaster in the end. Another had come on way too strong, expecting marriage after two dates at a time when Tomi was only looking to get laid. The third…ah…well…he’d been an idiot to let that one go, but he’d been young, just starting his stint at the academy, and the intensity of what he’d felt for Joanne had been more than he was prepared to cope with. He was older now, steadier, and he liked to believe he was wiser. Whatever this was, or had the potential to be…he and Astrid had just met. There was plenty of time.
