last week is (still) missing because last week isn't finished and there's no punishment except SHAME. only I wrote 15k yesterday and last week's is kind of insane so I don't feel any.
"Seriously?"
Dustin leaned against the door to Mark's office and Mark knew exactly why Dustin was there but whatever, okay? Mark was the youngest billionare in the world. He could do weird, eccentric shit if he wanted to.
"Mark," Dustin sighs, sitting in the chair next to Mark's desk, "What are you? A twelve year old girl on tumblr?"
"Well," Mark shrugged, "that's where a lot of the best theories about how he did it are showing up. I mean, I was never that great at math, but I think the effort to solve this scientifically is amazing."
"Oh my god."
Slumping forward until his head was on the table, Dustin groaned. Mark ignored him, scrolling down farther through the # bbc sherlock tag and looking for more theories. Personally, Mark doesn't think Mycroft is involved, but he's quite fond of the biker being a misdirect.
"You," Dustin says into the table, "are an idiot."
"Still expendable," Mark mutters.
"No really," Dustin says, sitting up, "You're a fucking idiot. Wait, hold on. How do they put it in the show? Oh, right: 'You look sad when you think he can't see you.' Which is your life."
Mark pointedly ignores Dustin. In a few minutes, Chris will probably come in and tell him that he's a headache, take that off the site right now and Mark will do it because otherwise Chris will make him go home and change the password to his netflix account or something because Dustin taught him tricks and Mark was seriously regretting his choice in accquaintances/co-workers.
"You don't get it, do you?"
There's a sadness in Dustin's voice that makes Mark look over. Dustin's shoulders are a little weighed down and Mark doesn't know how to fix it. He's bad with people, okay? It's part of why he likes Sherlock, partof why he identifies with Sherlock. Sometimes Mark thinks that maybe being a genius with no friends is . . . Mark sighs.
"Don't get what?"
"You're an idiot," Dustin says, rolling his eyes.
He stands, walking out, and Mark swears he hears Dustin say and Eduardo is too. Chris passes Dustin on his way in and looks like he wants to stop for a Dustin hug, but he doesn't. Instead, he just walks over and stands in front of Mark's desk.
"Mark."
"I'll take it down," Mark says.
"Good," Chris turns to leave, but stops in the doorway, "Mark?"
"Yes?"
Chris sighs, "Nevermind."
Somewhere, if he wants to admit it, Mark knows what they're (not) talking about. He doesn't want to admit it, because that would mean admitting he was wrong and he's never liked doing that. That's all it'll take, though, and Mark knows that because he knows how Watsons are. They'll forgive even the stupidest things, which Mark thinks is stupid but then what does he know? He inability to forgive people is what ended up sparking the seeds for the thing that made him a billionaire. If Mark forgave people, he wouldn't be where he was.
Sometimes, when he tells himself that, it doesn't feel like a lie.
