The the flap of a butterfly's wing can cause a tornado on the other side of the world. Similarly, a simple change in gender can change a lot. In one world, Mark Zuckerberg screwed his best friend out of a company. In another, Marcilynn Zuckerberg didn't exactly screw her best friend out of a company. She screwed her significant other out of a company not exactly because she wanted to, but because she was a woman and Facebook was more important to her than love. It's complicated, okay?
See because Marcilynn never dated Erica Albright, FaceSmash was mostly just a stupid little thing Dustin and Marcilynn coded while drunk. They never put it online, and they never crashed the Harvard servers. So Facebook might not have come into being, but Erica was dating Cameron and Cameron happened to mention that there was a project he was working on and he needed a coder. Erica told him about her friend Mark Zuckerberg, conveniently not mentioning that Mark was a girl. It's not like Erica thinks of her as one anyway, secretly she thinks Mark is a robot.
Either way, Marcilynn meets up with the Winklevoss twins and Divya, learned about Harvard Connection and dismissed it as stupid. Much like in the world where Mark is male, Marcilynn creates Facebook and co-founds it with Eduardo. Unlike the world where Mark is male, Eduardo doesn't take Marcilynn to the meetings with advertisers. They still don't get the advertising, but they do fight about whether Eduardo can do that, can just expect her sit there and accept that she's a girl and no one will take her seriously.
So maybe she flirts with Sean and maybe Eduardo doesn't freeze the accounts for any other reason but jealousy. Maybe Eduardo still makes a bad business deal and maybe the depositions still happen, but this time they're not about money even in the slightest. This time they're about jealousy and relationship issues and Marcilynn Zuckerberg rolling her eyes a lot at Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss because she didn't steal anything and sorry but she has other things on her mind. Sorry, but she's not paying attention to them because they're not Facebook and they're not Eduardo, which were the only things she ever gave her full attention to and now she doesn't even have Eduardo.
Now she doesn't have her fucking CFO, her best friend, or one of the few things that's ever mattered to her, and everyone in the room is a condescending asshole to her just because she's a girl. Like she can't understand the situation because she's female. Like they have to break everything down for her. Like she's not the most brilliant person sitting in the room.
And then what's left? Marcilynn Zuckerberg, youngest billionaire in the world, who sends a friend request to Eduardo Saverin on Facebook and sits in a darkened room and refreshes the page and refreshes the page and refreshes the page.
