...domestic abusers who claim to be right with God because they aren't homosexual
Oh dear. On the other hand, Yahweh was the Israelite war god so violence would probably go down well with him (it certainly did in the old testament!).
I'm also reminded of the college lecturer who withdrew his course on religious mythologies (including creationism and ID) after a couple of idiots who took umbrage beat him up.
I'm religious. Like, very much so. Still, I'm convinced about natural selection, but have some reservations yet about "we evolved from proto-apes".
But my creationist stance (generally) is an issue of faith, not one of science. I would go to church to learn about creation. I would go to uni to learn about evolution, and other issues of science. Whether God spun the universe up to see what happened or created it from whole cloth yesterday with fully formed memories and fossil records and whatnot, the things that science learns about the world we live in are without question relevant.
Sometimes, I am so embarrassed to be of the same race as these kinds of people. Being similarly Christian is almost enough reason for me to look into Buddhism or something.
*sigh*
Also, the way you say "Yahweh was the Israelite war god" suggests they had more than one.
And I'm confused now, because just reading the Bible, I wouldn't have thought they had a use for any other god.
Oi, I really enjoyed that article. It blows my mind that ANYONE can justify being an annoying jackass as pleasing to their god. Of course they think that we are annoyed is because we are sinners and in need of their wisdom. In reality we are just annoyed that they are bugging us
