Chapter 10

"Hello! Ashley! Yoo-hoo?! You there?" Kyoko waved her hands in front of Ashley's face, but Ashley stared ahead blankly. Kyoko rolled her eyes.
"Oh look, it's Jun-kun!" Ashley's eyes widened and she turned her head from left to right, know\cking over her bowl of cereal.
"Ugh..." Kyoko just sighed and got a rag and wet it and wiped off the milk off of the table.
"What's up?" Kyoko asked.
"Nothing..."
"Liar."
"I told you! Nothing!" Ashley exclaimed throwing her hands over her head. Kyoko frowned and cleared the table.
"Fine." Ashley was relieved, but she knew that Kyoko would ask again soon. Then she'll tell her, she owed her that much.
HASHIRIDASE, HASIRIDASE, ASU--
"Mosi moshi?" Ashley grinned. Kyoko had changed her ringtone to Happiness by Arashi. Funny. Kyok saw and stuck her tongue out.
"Oh hey Keito!" Ashley rolled her eyes and Kyoko threw the wet rag at her.
"Um, today?" She asked.
"Oh, um, hold on for a sec..." Kyoko lowered her phone and turned to Ashley. There was an uncertain expression on her face.
"Ano, Ashley. Keito's wondering if..." Kyoko's voice trailed off and her mouth was open, but no words came out. But Ashley could get the jist of it.
"Did he ask you out?" She asked a little wearily. Kyoko nodded.
"But if you wanted me to keep you company, I mean we could hang out instead..." Kyoko said hurriedly.
"No, go. I don't want to stop you from going out with your man. I have my own, I can get some company, stop making sound like a loser. Get outta here, you know you want to!" Ashley was grinning and Kyoko smiled sheepishly.
"Are you sure?" Ashley nodded and grabbed Kyoko's things and began pushing her out the door.
"Nani--?"
"Go on, get out. Tell your boyfriend I approve and if he screws you over he's going to meet my fist." Kyoko hit Ashley on the shoulder and muttered a goodbye to Keito on the phone before hanging up. She turned around to step out the door and walked right into someone.
"Sumimasen..." It was a man and his palms were up. He had a dreamy look in his eyes and he didn't look troubled at all about the fact that Kyoko had just slammed ino him.
"No, it's quite alright. You seem to have, ahh..." He closed his eyes and breathed deeply. Ashley and Kyoko exchanged glances and look uncertainly at the man.
"Ano, don't mean to be rude or anything but uh, who are you?" Kyoko asked as politely as she could. The man didn't open his eyes but answered in a dreamy tone.
"Kayashima Taiki desu. I take it you are Kyoko and you are Ashley?" Kyoko and Ashley's eyes widened but Taiki kept his eyes closed, still speaking.
"You may call me Taiki or Tai-kun. I don't mind really." He opened his eyes. Kyoko and Ashley's appalled faces didn't seem to bother him in the slightest.
"Hmm I seem to be keeping you from meeting someone. You have a....pink aura. Hmm, I haven't seen that in a long time. Well, I won't keep you. Gambette." He bowed towards Kyoko who stumbled down the steps and half-ran from the house leaving Ashley alone on the front steps of her house.
"Eto, Taiki-kun. What brings you to my house?" Taiki smiled. He looked kind of cute, if it were not for his palms still being up and that dreamy look in his eyes, he wasn't bad.
"Ah, I'm just visiting. You're mother is actually a good friend of a friend of mine. She said she'd be delighted if I came over. Said that I'd do better meeting a few new people. Nice woman..." He had a light voice, and he had a light expression on his face which turned to a frown when he faced Ashley.
"Ne, something's troubling you." Ashley drew in a breath. How was he doing this? How did he know that she was irritated? Or troubled as he put it? Ashley found herself speaking.
"I-It's nothing really. Just about my boyfriend is all..." Oh my GOD. Ashley shut up! BAKA! HELLO?! Complete stranger! Stop sharing your life to the whole world... But Ashley just couldn't stop. She had invited him in and made him a cup of tea and he sat down listening to what was troubling her so much.
"-and I don't know what to think anymore. I mean, the kiss was great I really liked it, but...Ugh, is it weird if I say I didn't feel anything?" Taiki nodded seriously and took a sip of tea before answering.
"No, I don't think it's weird. Demo ne, I think it's weird that you haven't told your best friend." He glanced at her and she frowned.
"I don't know. I just can't tell her..." Nor do I know why I'm telling you... She found herself thinking.
"Well, I know we haven't known each other for long but I'm always listening and don't worry I'll keep it safe. But you should really tell Kyoko-chan. She deserves to know, and I think she might be able to help you through what you will soon go through..." Before Ashley could say anything, Taiki had gotten up suddenly and turned for the door.
"Gomen. I must go now. Shall we keep in touch? Okay..." He didn't pause, but he threw down a piece of paper on to the table, gave a short bow and strode out of the house. Ashley was left, sitting in an awkward position. She was about to stop him from leaving, but he left before she could get up. As she was clearing up the table, she pondered on the last words he had said. She might be able to help you through what you will soon go through. What did he mean by that? Was he psychic or something? Ashley snorted at the thought. No way was he psychic, but then again, how did he know that Ashley was troubled? Ashley shifted uncomfortably at the thought and looked out the window. It was very sunny, the sky was blue and the birds chirped. Yet, there was an uncertain air that surrounded the area. She didn't like it, not one bit.
