Chapter 8
Daiki was quiet the whole walk. He was silently fuming. Jun occasionally catching words like "stupid" or "baka!" or just simply "ARGH!". Jun let his kohei vent a little bit, just keepin pace and look straight ahead. Then, Daiki stopped walking. Jun was a few steps ahead when he noticed that his grumbling companion was no longer with him. He turned around and saw Daiki standing stock still, fists jammed into his pockets. His shoulders drooped and his hair covered his eyes. Jun sighed and slowly inched towards Daiki.
"Dai-chan. Daijobu desu ka?" Daiki didn't reply and just shrugged. Jun stepped closer and plaved a warm hand on his shoulder.
"You can always tell me, or you don't have to. I've always listening either way." Daiki slowly looked up into his senpai's face.
"I don't know Jun-kun. I just felt...irritated again! My heart started beating with anger, and my head pounded with frustration. I don't even know why!" Daiki said empathetically. He really did look like a kid; A kid who thought he knew where he was going, only to find that he got lost. Jun's dark brown eyes rested on Daiki's and he did see frustration and irritation. But, was there something more?
"Dai-chan. All I can say to you is that there really is nothing you can do about her. As long as she stays as Yama-chan's girlfriend, the more self-discipline you'll have to learn." Daiki's eyes clouded over and he looked at his feet again. Jun noticed and pressed on.
"Look, all you'll have to do is learn to like her, or at least put up with her. Unless you avoid her, but that would mean avoiding Yama-chan too." Jun added quickly, seeing a mischeviou gleam from Daiki's eyes.
"Fine. I'll try. But I can't promise you that I'll like it!" Daiki pointed to himself and his eyes were rounded. Jun laughed and shook his head.
"I didn't expect you would, but it's a start!" The pair then continued on walking, Daiki having a big burden lifted, was presently more cheerful. Jun was too, however he knew that Daiki was feeling something else, but he wasn't sure if he was correct. But even if he was right, Daiki would need time to realized it himself.

"You are so embarrassing Ashley!" Kyoko teased as she walked with her arms folded, trying to keep herself warm. It was dark.
"Whatever Kyoko! If you say Nino-kun you'd be all over him!" Kyoko scowled.
"Weeee! At least I wouldn't end up on the floor giggling like some mad person!" Ashley stuck out her tongue and Ryosuke hugged her tightly from behind.
"I think I'm going to have to agree with Kyoko on this one!" He laughed. Ashley felt his breath tickle her neck.
"Tsk tsk Ryo-chan! Don't get jealous just because Jun-kun's an older man!" Kyoko laughed and Ryosuke just clung on tighter, also giggling softly, Keito shook his head with a smile.
"Looks like I've got some competition!"
"Trust me Yama-chan, there is no competition!"
"Shut up Keito!" The four of them laughed and chatted.
"Ano, what was up with Dai-chan?" Ryosuke asked. When everyone kept silent, Ashley shrugged.
"Dunno. I think he's got something against me or something." Kyoko and Keito looked uncomfortable and said nothing Rysouke just went on.
"Eh? IOdd..." That was all he said and they all walked, each in their own thoughts. Both couples huddled closer to their partnet, but no words escaped their lips and none were intent on sharing thoughts. The sky was dark but the air became drastically humid, mixed with a little tension. Then, Ashley broke the uncertain silence.
"Ne, Kyoko. Where are you staying tonight?" Kyoko shrugged, glad for a reason to speak.
"Um, I guess I'll crash at your place. D'You still have some of my stuff?" Kyoko asked a little uncomfortably. Ashley understood her friends uncertainty, probably because she doesn't want to go home, she thought.
"Yep. My place is pretty much yours!" Instead of answering with sarcasm or a smart remark, Kyoko smiled. Not the normal smile, but the sincere smile that touched her eyes, making them sparkle.
"Thanks a bunch Ashley. I owe you one." Ashley shook her head.
"Nah. But I reserve the right to use this against you one day!" They laughed and momentarily forgot about present company. Keito just looked fondly at Kyoko, watching her be happy. Ryosuke, however, watched in confusion, and maybe a little irritation. He didn't particularly like it when he was "left out". He just stared ahead, his hand remained around Ashley's waist, but it was stiff. Ashley didn't notice a change in her partner's grip and just continued to smile happily.

Much too soon, they were in front of the Strawberry Cafe, in other words, the separating point. The four of them stood there for a bit, each babbling to one another. Kyoko and Keito in their own world and Ashley and Ryosuke chattering away, the conversation only making sense to themselves. At some point, Kyoko and Keito detached themselves from Ashley and Ryosuke without them noticing. This was when Ryosuke looked away, his hands trembling a bit.
"Ryo-chan, you okay?" Ashley noticed the abrupt change in Ryosuke's mood and became a little worried. Ryosuke spoke, his eyes on the cement.
"I-I...I thought I'd l-like...to get...to get you something..." He seemed a little hesitant and then he shook his head violently.
"Uh, Ryo-chan. You're sort of scaring me." Ashley took a small step back as if to make a point.
"Gomen, but...Ah, please close your eyes." Ashley was still a little scared of Ryosuke's mood swings and was a bit hesitant in closing her eyes, but closed them nonetheless. Ryosuke took a step closer, diminishing any space in between them.
"Ryo-chan?" Ashley mumbled, confused. Ryosuke didn't respond and took another step, now only an inch away from Ashley. His breathing became uneven and he slowly raised a shaking hand. He placed one hand on Ashley's cheek and pulled closer, so that he could see every pore on her poreclain skin...
~
"You know you'll have to tell her tonight don't you?" Keito stated as he and yoko stood on the small balcony above the Cafe. The stars twinkled, the moon was full and it illuminated their faces. Kyoko sighed.
"I know. I'm wondering what she'll have to say about it anyway. She's the only person I can open up too." Keito eyed her curiously.
"Hmmm...What--What about me?" He said so softly that it sounded like the wind, but Kyoko heard and shifted uncomfortably.
"Keito, don't--don't take this the wrong way, but--I still need to get to know you better but I think you'll be joining Ashly soon." She added with a smile. Keito nodded. He wasn't the type who would be pushy about it. But what am I going to do now...or more importantly, how? his head buzzed. Then, he made his decision. He tapped Kyoko on the shoulder. She slowly turned around.
"Hm?"
"Kyoko..." He took a step forward and gently placed a finger under her chin and tilted her head upwards. Kyoko tiptoed a little, her face only millimetres away from his, her heart pounded as they closed their eyes...and their lips met. His were soft and they were eager, but he kept them reserved. His hands cupped her face and one hand snaked through her hair and he slid his other arm around her waist. It was just...perfect.
~
Kyoko and Ashley lay in Ashley's bedroom staring at the ceiling. They hadn't bothered to even pig out that night because they had their fill at the restaurant. Instead, they filled themselves with this silence that wasn't exactly awkward but it wasn't something easy to break either. They were both thinking wildly, about the events of that night that they had excitedly shared with one another before falling into the depths of silence. Neither were asleep but they pretended. They could talk in the morning.
Ashley was thinking about the way Ryosuke kissed her.
Kyoko was thinking about the way Keito kissed her.
Both were still kisses, but still so different. Ryosuke's was short and sweet, but Ashley couldn't tell if there was meaning behind those lips. She told herself that yes, there was meaning. Then again, she always lied to herself. But she justrefused to believe that she was lying and believed that Ryosuke was sincere about that kissed and that satisfied her. Kyoko on the other hand, didn't know what to think. But she did know that Keito's kiss wasn't pretend or acting. It was the real thing. It wasn't like in the movies where the guy gets carried away and the girl plays along, acting out what was supposed to be "passion". No, it was more reserved and controlled, but there was still a hint of passion and sweetness. Even though they haven't known each other for long, which Kyoko pinned herself down for, she knew that he liked him and she hoped he liked him back. She guessed that this was probably the answer to her question and she went on, not troubled.
