Because of moving and teaching and traveling for the six weeks of the Write-a-Thon, the challenge I set myself was to try out some different voices, a page or so at a time. Week One: success! Surgery tomorrow: "peroneal retinacular repair of right foot," it says on the forms, though there's probably some tendon damage that will need to be fixed, as well. Ever since I found out I was going to need surgery, I have been obsessively cleaning the house and putting things in order. Sweep floor, dust floor, mop floor. Empty the refrigerator and wipe everything down and put it all back. Glue the paw back on the broken china fox. The only reason I am not alphabetizing my spices is that they already were. The surgeon suggested I spend the days before surgery getting things ready for being housebound for so long. My way of coping with stress is to organize and/or clean, so this is like having your doctor tell you to watch more movies.
