Safe journeys and exciting adventures, Kij. I am excited beyond belief for you, and want to hear all about your amazing experiences.
We did something similar, five years ago. Moved from the NW, where I'd been born and raised, from the house we owned for 10 years in Vancouver, WA - narrowed all our belongings down to what would fit in one 5x7x8 storage Pod and moved cross country to Massachusetts. Then, two years later, did the same thing (only this time we took two pods) and moved here to AZ.
To be honest, I'm ready to go "home" to the NW. I've done awesome things, met interesting people. I saw my first wild javelina/tarantula/black bear, shoveled significant snowfall for the first time in my life, and made friends all across the country. But I miss the wet and the green and even the grey.
Maybe we'll be having this conversation again in 5 years in Seattle, and I'll buy you a drink to thank you for writing Fox Woman - It's still one of my favorite books of all time.
I'll certainly be available. I'm a short distance from 17/I86, and a somewhat longer distance from the Thruway. (17's a nicer drive.)
Email me when you have specific dates, i can give you directions. Hammondsport's a nice place -- wineries, Amish folks, and lake! be a good resting stop, and you can catch up w/my sister.
