The short guy is U U. He is the one who was upset about the curse. Ou Ki is the head of Monka-shou in the current time. See, there are two opposing factions in the imperial court, Kokushi group (those who passed the civil service exam like Shuurei, Kouyuu, and others), and Kizoku group (the aristocrat group, for those who were assigned to the positions because they were from aristocratic family). Monka-shou (and Gyoshidai= Office of Administrative Inspection) is the stronghold of the aristocrat group. Ou Ki is like the head of that group. In a new arc that will start in anime in a few weeks, Ou Ki is behind Shuuei's misfortune.

I know I'm commenting on each and every chapter. I'm sorry if I'm flooding your inbox.^^;
I wish we had a novel on the emperor, so we'd know what he's really like. He's.. such an interesting character. I think there's a part of him that really loves his children, he just has a different way of showing it (or doesn't want to show it at all). I don't buy his reason for lowering Seien's sentence. I felt like he was also hoping that after he was gone, and if the empire did become chaotic, Seien would come back and take the throne.
Thanks again for the translation, and sorry for the spam.^^

Oh, don't worry. I like to read comments. And it is interesting to know how the readers feel reading each chapter:)
I haven't read it but there is a short story about Senka, Shouka, Ou Ki, and others when they were younger, which published in The Beans Vol.7. I am hoping they will release another Gaiden book soon, so I can finally read it!
Excuse me, where can I get a copy of the manga? Do u have any links to download it online? Looking 4wrd to read it too. If u stumbled on the site which has it can u help inform me? Thanks a lot... hahaha

There must be a reason as why the emperor did not put Seien on the chopping block.
I don't know if he intended for Seian to eventually take the throne or maybe just to govern the country together with Ryuuki.
Have the novel ever mentioned the rest of Senka children?
arrggggggggghhhhhhhhh so many unanswer questions.
