I think, from now on, they should be called the Academy of Motion Pictures That Do Not Threaten Our Preconceived Notions of What Makes a Good Film

Well, the two I referred to in the comparison were: - The Curious Case of Benjamin Button - The Dark Knight
Maybe I shouldn't be so hard on #1. I heard it was really good, and will probably go on to win the Oscar for best picture. No, what I hate is the fact that they snubbed TWO movies that were far superior to ones on the list, both by the public and by the critics. The other awards shows picked both The Dark Knight and WALL-E to be contenders for best picture. The Academy is showing a trend, with the exception for movies that completely blow it out of the water (a la LOTR), of going with that which is safe and pushes few to no boundaries.
That's the gist of my rant.
Although, I am glad that Heath Ledger received a posthumous nod for his role.
Then again, the winners are getting younger and younger, eventually there won't be anyone to win the awards save the latest cadre of child actors cooked up by Disney.
