I was reading this week's Hey, Answerman! and got to the Question of the Week part (scroll half way down).

Hahaha, okay, so I watched the first season or so of Fushigi Yuugi, too. So did Yvonne. It was our freshmen year and we were members of animation club. Don't know what your excuse is, though!! At first it was okay but Miaka kept getting more and more annoying, I am actually impressed at your will power to stay and watch it through without destroying your TV/computer.

But yes, as you mentioned, this is where I discovered Koyasu. Still though...

Oh, okay, Aa Megami-sama was probably worse than Fushigi Yuugi. But Miaka is still more annoying. As much as Yuiko from Loveless.

And shall I remind you that Youko from Juuni Kokki actually gets ranked top as one of the coolest,(ass-kicking) favourite female characters on anime?

I can't remember how I picked up FY. I'm thinking it was one of the widely distributed fansubs (no easily accessible raws back then) and I was just getting started with anime. And then my OCD nature kicked in and I had to finish watching everything. It was like watching a train wreck in horrified fascination: OMG Miaka and Tamahome luv each other but Tamahome is 2D but wait he's reborn into reality but then he's sent back again but now he's back and Miaka is preggers but holy shit psycho stalker bitch appears and WHAT WILL HAPPEN?!

By the end of it, I liked Yui, Miaka's blonde friend, better than Miaka.

...I watched Aa Megami-sama too. However, I only got through less than half before I gave up on it. The whole submissive girlfriend/wish fulfillment aspect really turned me off.

Yes, I know Youko is kickass! I really should've stuck with the anime a few more episodes, but like I said, traumatized.
