What a day. We had CNN on at the office all day. A nightmare in broad daylight.
When you have a child in a war zone as a volunteer in the military, when you have a spouse as a law enforcement officer, then you brace yourself (at least a little) and you know that 'no news is good news'.
When you have a child in college, you shouldn't have to worry

Oh, would you mind helping me with a Marine question? I'm trying to sort out what Marine unit Joe Dawson would have been in. Any opinions?

In the Vietnam era, there were still Marine on floats (Navy ships) more often than now, but I can probably guess as to a probable unit if I have an approximate date.
Marines don't use patches on their uniforms to indicate units like the Army does, so pictorial evidence won't help much.
His MOS would have started out 0311 (basic infantryman) and then added additional training on from there. Let's knock heads on this.

But life doesn't stand still and now he's out protecting US and she's about to launch herself into the world of adulthood right behind him. Where DID the time go?

He was wounded in action - so he was in a 'grunt' unit (vice a support unit - he was no pogue). Does he describe or do we have good flashbacks of any of his 'nam experience? An infantryman would be MOS 0311 (basic infantry).
Marine's do not wear unit patches on their combat uniform (unlike the Army), so visual flashbacks may not provide a lot of information.
And I'm guessing you've already checked on the Watcher's CD for any info there. Do they mention a timeframe or place for his being wounded? We might be able to cross ref unit info to the units in county on that date.
Most Marine units rotated in and out of 'nam.
