Alas my brain does not work like that.
I can have the tv or a radio station (that is not a music station) on quietly in the background when I am working but not music.

What's worse is I can hear a piece of music or a lyric and snap to and think "Yes that's *exactly* what I want to capture" or "That is *so* Jack/whoever" but then cannot listen to it while I write.
This, I think, is what car stereos were designed for, I can listen to my 'mood' piece ad nauseam and then scuttle off and write, or try to...
