[... go for the person who defended herself against a creepy thug]
Are you all right? That man didn't hurt you before you... um, you know?
All right, if you're certain you're all right, Miss.
[Amelia pauses]
Um... I don't mean to be rude, but...
[how does one ask if someone else is a vampire? Amelia's never met any, besides a couple of vampire bats that her uncle Randy had summoned to try to distract her father...]

See?
[And if this isn't the perfect confirmation of what Mello suggested might happen, though not directly, nothing is. And he's not going to offer condolences, or tell her that the guy deserved it, or anything to make her feel more comfortable right now.
Because she shouldn't feel comfortable.
She should be terrified, but based on what he just saw, it's going to take a little more than one guy to pull that one off.]
Next time, it might be a whole bunch of them. Guy might have friends, yeah?
[First thing she did in fucking up was doing business out in the open. Second thing was doing it with no protection, no backup. She's been here not even as long as him, and if he has no idea as to what these locals are capable of, she probably doesn't have a fucking clue

[Ah, okay, Jessica now realizes that she might have deserve that.
But still. As grating as Bill is, at least Jessica knows that she is compelled to follow Bill's commands.
This guy on the other hand, not so much. He's maybe - just maybe - in the know of things, but that doesn't give him the right to be a dick and tell her what to do. She's willing to offer her blood. If this guy keeps on treating her like shit, she can easily withdraw her offer. And she knows instinctively that the reason he's on her back so much in the first place is that the guy's broke and want some easy money. Him saying that he's not homeless - what a fucking lie. If he wasn't, he wouldn't have asked her of her own finances, or whatever counts as finances in this place.]

Never claimed to be.
[Defensive. Which is understandable, considering she might just be the most potentially lucrative thing walking around on two legs. His tone however, is evening out, and he speaks more calmly this time. He's still feeling her out, and Mello thinks that he might have her pegged: typical chick who's been through some shit. Maybe innocent before, because it shows in her naivety, but definitely someone who has been pushed to the brink of her patience.
Alright, then. But he's certainly not going to alter his entire demeanor for one chick. If he's going to deal with her, she needs to learn how to deal with him. It's simple enough.]
I'm just someone trying to help. But by all means, if you think there's someone not only more capable, but willing, take a shot at it.
[And there's that cockiness again. No one's more suited for the job, but fuck if he's gonna go out of his way to prove himself who would ultimately benefit from his services.]

[Jessica! Matt almost shouts out loud, watching this. But it all happens so fast, he doesn't have time. He definitely doesn't have time to figure out where she is and get to her, and wow, would he be useless in a fight like this, anyway. She kicks ass; she'd be fuckin' scary, if he didn't know her.
Any thought of the business or monetary implications--of how she might see that she needs someone to vet people before she goes making offers--doesn't even occur to him. He likes her, and some asshole tried to mess with her. It's almost as simple as that.]

[Jessica is. Just. Going somewhere to die from embarrassment. Of all people to see this, she really didn't want Matt to watch it. Ugh. Fucking Hitomi.]
I think I'll be fine. I don't think that guy will be, uh, getting up anytime soon, if you know what I mean.
[A slapping sound is heard faintly, as though she's slapping herself on the forehead.]
And before you say it, yeah, that was pretty dumb.
[Audio | Private]mightstealyrcarAugust 16 2010, 06:37:49 UTC
I wasn't gonna say it.
Get away from there, though, 'kay? I can come and meet you somewhere if you want.
[He's not exactly equipped to deal with a damsel in distress, but then, she's not exactly a damsel in distress. If anything, she might be saving his ass someday.]

It's not like I killed him. And he attacked me first.

[Jessica sounds like she doesn't believe you.]

The locals in Yomisato can be rather disagreeable. Someone among them attempted to start conflict with my partner in a similar fashion.
I was not so kind as you. I suppose I escaped becoming an animal only because I died on the same day.

[Yeah, Jessica has completely forgotten of Kakashi telling her no one can die here in her first night here in Kannagara.]

Those who govern this place always revive its inhabitants so far as I am aware.

[She ponders this.]
If I die, does that mean I'll come back as a vampire still, or I'll become human? 'Cause technically, I'm the walking dead and all.

Er, no. He didn't do anything really. Just being annoying, that's all.

[Annoying? Yes. Childish? Maybe.
A push-over?
Fuck no.]
