I've long been waiting for a new game in the Legacy of Kain series. Looks like I'll have to
keep waiting. Oh, I suppose I didn't qualify that first sentence well enough. I mean to say that I've long been waiting for a new good game in the Legacy of Kain series, but instead they're giving us this "free-to-play PVP multiplayer" bullshit.
This is almost as bad an idea as that
Shenmue Town crap was. If this multiplayer Nosgoth shit happens to lead to another actual, real LoK game at some point later on, that'll be great and all, but if
Shenmue Town was any indication at all (relative to an actual new Shenmue game showing up), then I'm not going to be holding my breath for a new LoK game, either. And I'll say the same thing here that I said about Shenmue Town: this is not a proper way to "gauge interest" in a new, real LoK game. You know how you do that? You release an actual fucking LoK game, and not a shitty multiplayer thing, just like you don't "gauge interest" in a new Shenmue game by putting Ryo Hazuki in a fucking racing game or a social networking piece of crap thing.
Seriously, why must everything these days be turned into multiplayer crap? -_-
(EDIT)
Watched the trailer. "Clan Razielim." What. No, really, one of the big plot points of Soul Reaver was that Raziel's line had been wiped out by Kain after they threw Raziel into the Abyss at the beginning of the game.
But then, as the article itself says: "Lore just gets in the way in multiplayer games..." Whether the writer was being sarcastic or serious with that, it doesn't matter, as it apparently seems to be the mindset of the devs, regardless.
I suppose this could be set in the past, though, before the whole thing in Soul Reaver happened. That would allow the Clan Razielim (and, for that matter, humans) to still be around. The whole thing still sounds like a shit sandwich though.
(EDIT 2)
"It takes place after the events that kicked off the original Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver..." Okay, so I guess that means it takes place during the centuries between when Raziel was tossed into the Abyss but before he returned in his wraith form. So, essentially, it's during the time when the vampires were systematically wiping out the humans (aside from the few pockets of resistance that still remain at the time of Soul Reaver) as well as Raziel's clan. I guess I can buy that. So maybe they're not as ignorant of the lore as they at first seemed. (That said, I'm not sure why Raziel's clan would still be on the side of the vampires, given that all the other clans should be gunning for them during this time period. Not that I'd see them suddenly helping humans either, though.)
That still doesn't excuse them from making a "free-to-play PVP multiplayer" game and calling it a Legacy of Kain game, though.
