Notes from the weekend

Sep 17, 2007 08:54

- I had way too much fun writing my episode summary for redial_the_gate. So much fun, indeed, that I got very little else done on Saturday. I may have to go back and crop out large sections of it, though, because it is monstrous in size.

- I need to start going to the gym again and get back to fencing, swimming, strength training or something more calorie- ( Read more... )

I know just enough chess to get my clock cleaned. I don't think I've won a match, well, ever. So you are one up on me.

Heh. My chess skillz are minimal. I consider it a victory if I can make my opponent swear at least once during the match, but I never win. Possibly this is because of my signature strategy (pronounced "straggety") which involves moving all the most powerful pieces into dangerous positions and then watching as they all get captured because I am an idiot.

Sounds like you and I are about at the same level, then. We should play each other!

And yes: "Stradgety" = strategy + tragedy

Back in my MageKnight days, when someone lost because of some spectacularly stupid move they had made without foreseeing the inevitable (and devastating) consequences, we always said that the player had lost due to "Superior Stradgety."

I know just enough chess to know the different moves that the pieces make.

*laughs* Then you could probably beat me, since I apparently forget how they're supposed to move on a regular basis. I keep concocting Really Cunning Plans that are always doomed because they end up hinging on a Queen moving like a Knight or something really ingenious like that.

I just had to comment to say, "Ooh, Avon and Cally!" From Mission To Destiny, I believe.

...And it's just dawned on me what your username is. Duh!

I am such a n00b that for a long time I thought Kathryn's username was "Kerra Vonsen." I still tend to think of her as "Kerra" for this reason, even though Kathryn suits her better. *is a n00b*

Oy. I'm horrible at chess! I do know how the pieces move, but I can't think ahead AT ALL.

My brother loves the game, but I refused to play him ever again years and years ago when he turned 5 years old. And if I can't beat a 5 year old, I have no hope against an adult...

Yes, what is this "think three moves ahead" nonsense? I think my brain just doesn't have enough RAM.

Ooh, don't crop the recap! People (read: me) will read it. The more there is, the more people have to discuss, too. IMO.

I watched Brief Candle - I've got out of the habit of watching them, which is daft seeing as I'm one of the mods. It's been a long while since I last saw it, and I needed to re-evaluate it with a bit of distance from my Sam/Jack extremism. :)

Well, maybe I won't cut it down, then. We shall see.

I love "Brief Candle." It's so filled with cracky goodness. And I've always been kind of an anti-shipper (though I like Jack/Sam, I don't really feel strongly enough to really get worked up about it--I leave that for my sister *grin*) so the whole thing with Kynthia was more amusing than upsetting to me. And come on, the costumes. You gotta love those costumes.

Ah, yes, love the costumes. Kynthia has the worst name, though. And I was a lot more interested in Jack's note to Sara, this time around. It's a lot of fun, that ep.

But I shall save all this for tomorrow. :)

My kids--who love to play penguins and love to play pirates (although they've never done both at once)--loved your icon. I have a sneaking suspicion that I may have a pirate penguin costume to make for Halloween.

It is a superior icon. Glad it made you and the kids giggle!
