Summergen!!!!

Who's excited for their summergen assignment? I'm excited for my summergen assignment! Reading the prompts, I know who's going to be in my fic and what part of the timeline it'll take place, as well as the basic premise and two of the things I wanna play around with for my own pleasure (one characterization-wise, and one description-wise ( Read more... )

I'm excited for my summergen! Although my prompt set contains such an embarrassment of riches that I am in quite a flap about which one I should pick! I have several half-baked ideas percolating away, if half-baked things can be said to percolate... I may have to combine a few! Which, given that they prompts are a pretty even split between funny and hurty, may result in a comic tragedy or a tragic comedy ( ... )

Embarrassment of riches sounds delightful, as does tragicomedy/vice versa--the very essence of SPN itself! I'm definitely planning to use a few elements from my recipient's other prompts. It's a prompt partyyyy!

Man, I know what you mean about the prompt issues. I keep telling myself I need to collect prompts throughout the year so I have them handy when I need them, but of course I never do that... Maybe next year!

And good luck to you as well! While I am 100% the worst guesser of all time, I look forward to reading yours, and to eventually finding out which one it was! There's always so much excellence I can never tell who wrote which excellent thing. XDDD

I love hearing about writing processes, even though I don't write anymore. Your post made me go back and look (and think). I was a little surprised to find that even though I posted 20 SPN gen fics, and almost all were for prompts, I think only one was for summergen, and that was 10 years ago!

I realized that I was/am totally uncomfortable about being 'assigned' prompts. I much prefer reading dozens of prompts, mulling over which if any spark a flame in me, pondering what I would like to do with it, and only then committing to produce a story.

But I have tremendous respect (and appreciation!) for folks who are better risk-takers, willing to jump in and generously write like you do!

This is going to sound absurd, but I definitely remember your summergen fic (from TEN YEARS AGO, WHAT???? was it really????) and I think after the reveals for that round might have been when I friended you, because I'm pretty sure I made a point of friending everyone who'd written something I'd really liked XDD Unless we were already friends at that point?? (I wish I were better at remembering friendship origin stories. I can't even remember the origin stories for people I met in person, literally at some specific event or in some specific grounded context.)

That's so interesting about prompts! But I do think that makes sense, especially in a fandom as large as SPN where there are often many prompts to be had and mulled over in order to find the one that sparks.

I feel pretty comfortable coming up with an idea for just about any prompt, at least where SPN is involved. Whether my interpretation will also jibe with the prompter is another story, hahaha, so I think that's the part where I do more second-guessing and waffling.

I am, I am! No idea what I'm writing yet, but the prompts are glorious!

Yayyyyyy I'm glad to hear it!! As I was sending out assignments, I would catch glimpses of bits and pieces of prompts and they were a treasure trove, oh man. So many "oh I have an idea for that," "I'd write that!," "I wanna read that," "that never occurred to me but now I want it," etc.
