Movie Recs! Hell or High Water + The Houses October Built

Jan 17, 2020 21:05

The last couple days of 2019 I realized I'd seen like zero movies. (Well, I'd seen Toy Story 4, Hobbs and Shaw, The Farewell, and the latest Star Wars.) This made me feel culturally illiterate, so I decided I should up my game and try to watch some things I'd been meaning to get to. I ended up choosing Hell or High Water (2017), which is a heist ( Read more... )

Okay sometime I've gotta get caught up on the backlog of comments I've wanted to leave on your posts lolol but just popping in on this one real quick to say thanks for reminding me that:

a) I've very much wanted to watch 'Hell or High Water' since I first saw the trailer, but somewhere between 2017 and now I forgot about its existence. So thanks for bringing it up again-I really want to see it!

b) I've very much wanted to watch 'The Farewell' since I first saw the trailer, and I HAVE A COPY OF IT AT MY HOME that I need to watch before I start accruing library late fees. (I've been practically in tears over this movie since first hearing about it oh no)

The same thing happened to me!! I don't remember what reminded me of its existence, but I'd definitely forgotten about it. And then I was like, WAIT OH YEAH. (And for once Netflix actually had a movie I wanted to see!)

The Farewell is SO amazing. <3333 I drove to Madison Heights to see it (it was limited release at first and I didn't know it would eventually come to A2... lol--but the Madison Heights theater was lovely and I hung out at the Madison Heights library beforehand, which was also very nice). Definitely something to watch when you're in the right mindset, though. Can't be just "eh I'll Law and Order this" about it! XDD (This is one of the reasons I still haven't seen Coco, though I've also heard that it's very good and very tear-inducing.)

I just (finally) sat down and watched The Farewell. It was so, so good. <333 (And that shot from out of the back car window of Nai Nai waving goodbye... that particular shot was so incredibly poignant. Oh my word.)

Coco is really beautiful!! I saw it in theaters (one of the two times in my life that I've gone with friends to just "the movies" in general-what a concept!-and picked out a film the night of) and I teared up/cried three separate times.
