I had a very cozy time last night! <3 I actually didn't need all the blankets I owned--just the five layers I was wearing, my sleeping bag, one fuzzy blanket, and my IKEA comforter. It was 13 outside, 20 in the car, and TOASTY WARM in my cocoon. <333 ( Read more... )

Ok, I don't know a ton about this stuff? But I understand that having a winter tent makes a huge difference. (Especially if you're backpacking and have limited blanket capacity.)

I have a flimsy summer tent. :D And, we only do drive-up campsites, so. FWIW? Two things make the biggest difference, in my opinion, on chilly nights. One, being as much off the ground as possible (we use an air mattress). Doubtless, there are groundcloth products with insulation, but $$$$!!! Two, I roll my big fluffy bathrobe into a bolster pillow and stick it between my head and the tent wall. Does wonders for draftiness.

Winter camping is my nightmare. I bow to your superior toughness. ^_^

I borrowed a winter tent once, but I honestly didn't think the extra warmth was worth the cost or weight of one. IT WAS STILL COLD AND MISERABLE IN THERE, AAAH. And that was with an extra blanket and every bit of clothing I owned ( ... )

See, now I'm really glad I butted in, because we'd been talking about getting something beefier. Guess I'll spend that money on glamping gear instead. Haha. You're right about the time and energy. One day, I swear, I would love to have a little camper. Just leave all that shit ready-to-go in there!

I am trying my very best to insulate against and ignore the single digit temps forthcoming. I wish you warmth! <3

I haven't camped in the cold, but I do understand there are some that test for VERY low temperatures!

I'm happy to hear that you were cosy! I'm such a baby with cold weather and couldn't handle being in the car, let alone in a tent in winter conditions (it's bad enough in the summer!)

I'm glad Dean's birthday got it in before this week. It's supposed to be -15 on Thursday before wind chill and I am worried my poor baby car won't be able to start in such temperatures! X_X

Not really a fan of the cold, or camping (it's not super practical if some of your key joints don't bend), and I always forget that you are. Report back on your findings, and watch out for wendigos, especially if you go by yourself.
