Yay! You should be rewarded for poking your head out, when you're feeling so awful. *sends flowers, tea, hugs, and sparkly confetti*
I'm so so sorry that you're having a bad time with your health right now, and I hope you'll start feeling well enough to enjoy your AMAZING courses. I am so impressed that you are teaching Milton, on top of all your other interests. (I've, um, never actually read Paradise Lost. You heard it here, folks!) And CONGRATULATIONS on finishing the Austen chapter.
I don't have much news (teaching, health woes, family health woes, you know the drill). Except that I finished the Vorkosigan series, and am now wondering what to do next, other than reading lots of fanfic. Maybe Bujold's fantasy books? Have you read and liked any of them?
So sorry for not replying earlier... I was really sick. But! Here I am now! I am having a great time with the Milton course -- it's funny because I left the Renaissance behind for kid lit and pop culture, and in my own research, that's been awesome -- but teaching? Early modern is totally my favorite thing to teach.
Yay (and also sorry) on finishing Vorkosigan. I hear the next book is working titled Ivan: His Book so that's something to look forward to, I suppose. I find Bujold's fantasy okay, but nothing spectacular, and nothing like Vorkosigan. Um. After the latest bout of Vorkosigan, I usually end up re-reading Lord Peter, or (if I want to continue with space opera) one of my other favorite series: Julian May's Saga of Pliocene Exile and the Galactic Milieu. It's not as immediately gripping, but involves time travel and (in my opinion) one of the most awesome family sagas ever -- though this doesn't take the foreground until the third & fourth books of the first series.
One thing that was going on with me was a call for beta readers who know about India... please don't feel obligated, as I have a couple already, but if you are interested and have the spoons by the time I finish a draft of the storhy, I'd love to have your feedback.
And thanks for the beta! Right now it's you and queenofthorns and Shweta and an off-LJ friend of a friend. I might ask Deepa too if she has time.
The story hit a bit of a snag since my original choice of setting -- and hence background and naming and logistics - turned out to be politically sensitive in a way that I don't want to mess with since it's not important to the story.
It shouldn't affect the basic bones, it just means things like what the characters' bloody names are are on hold till I can find a replacement. And while that really shouldn't matter in a world with search replace, I'm finding it hard to keep writing till I know what else will have to change as a result. Does that make any sense?
Also I don't care about the brother but the main character really wants to be Asha and if I have to change it I'll be annoyed.
(The actual story may also be politically sensitive, since it's an Indian/Anglo lesbian pairing in the late 1800s, but I can live with that.)
I love you and miss you so much! It has been weeks -- but WEEKS! -- since I haven seen you and this SUCKS. I had a really bad dose of the flu for a while there... and now am struggling to finish this article that I'm writing... but WE MUST HAVE KALI&EDIE TIME SOON. I have the withdrawal! I hope you are feeling better!
AND I LOVE THIS IMAGE. You are awesome in every way.
