I went without health insurance for a few years. Clearly I am here to tell the tale. Remember that ERs will treat you if you have an emergency, and often for free or no cost.

Definitely sock money away this year, though. IIRC Obamacare rolls out the fines in 2014. Meaning, if you are without health insurance in 2014 and you go to a doctor, any doctor, for any reason, you get whacked with a $750 'tax' fee/fine.

I know a lot of people do go without insurance but my mother makes me paranoid and really worried/stressed about doing it.

She says the insurance companies will charge me extra when I do rejoin for going a period without insurance and that they would charge me extra for preexisting conditions (if herniated discs or plantar fasciitis count as preexisting conditions).

If I do get the health insurance I will have absolutely no savings (and not enough flexibility financially to fix this) and not even enough in my accounts to make the hospitalization co-pay if I need it.

This year would be my last chance to pull this as I'm pretty sure Obamacare would be for really low income so I probably would not even qualify for that because I should be able to live off what I make but have made some shitty financial decisions over the past couple years thus thoroughly screwing myself
