NY Brainstormage

Okay, trying my damnest to work out this NY trip! :)

Roughly, I think I'd fly out on Sunday 7th, and arrive later that day in NY. Then I need to work out accommodation for the week. I might not be able to afford the Edison for more than a few days, even sharing - it's just too expensive! - so if I do end up staying for teh week, I might have to ( Read more... )

I hope you can get the dates!

For accommodation hostels.com has always been a good one for me. If I find one that seems reasonably priced then I just cross-check its rating on tripadvisor - you'll know if it's dodgy after just glancing at the reviews. I've already looked and you can get some for about €60-€70 a night, sometimes cheaper, for a private room, which isn't bad. It's a fraction of the price of a hotel room. And if you can convince someone to share then you;ll save some money. Unless you're the kind that'll throw heself into a dorm. I've never been daring enough for that myself.

I'm happy with dorm-shares - it's what I lived in all the time in Australia - but if I can afford to "splash out" a bit for NY, I'd like to. I'm not really "back-packing" this time, though I am still a budget traveller, I guess. :D

Do we know how many people will be sharing yet? Is it just you, Holly and I so far for that week? Perhaps if we could get mooncove to chip in too if she still needs somewhere to stay. Of course not telling them there's 2 extra people does sometimes save money, but that would be ripping them off...oh well.

Do you know what type of room we'd need to book there...have you done any calculations yet?

Did you get my email? I haven't heard from mooncove so it may be the three of us sharing, which would work-out at, for three of us with a connecting pair of rooms and a Queen & two singles between us, something over $600-each for the nights from the 7th, leaving on the 13th. There might be additional taxes.

I might be able to fly out from NY on the Saturday - I've found some reasonable Saturday flights out of NY. Are those dates all right with you? (7th -13th.) I can stay an extra day if necessary.

I should know by this evening what days I can have off-work and might book my flight tonight, regardless of exam dates. Since we're going in June, I figure it might be wise to get flights sorted as soon as possible, and I don't know how long this cheap Saturday returns are gonna stay available for.

We can book accommodation this week if everyone's happy and has some flight arrangements. :)

Around $600 sounds reasonable doesn't it...do you know if they require full payment at time of reservation or deposit and remainder on arrival? Because for my flight and accomm. (will turn out being $1000 for accomm with the exchange rate) I'm going to be selling some shares. hehe haven't done that in ages, but Geoffy's worth it.

Has work given you the okay for the dates yet?

Screw work - I'm going whatever they say. :) I *have* asked them but I got told by one manager that he needs to talk to the other because there are two other people off that week and he's not sure whether or not they can spare me. Bloody Hell, I only do three lil evening shifts! I'm sure they can spare me! If not, fuck 'em, I'll leave and go anyway.

I've booked a flight because they seem to be going fast at cheap rates in June and even though I wanted to wait to see if I could get a real bargain, I'd hate to have to pay even more if there are no bargains in a couple of months... I arrive at 6.10pm on Sunday 7th, and leave 6.20pm on the 13th, both to and from JFK ( ... )
