"Ding Dong" is in bad taste. How about "Rust in Peace, Iron Lady"?

"There is no such thing as society: there are individual men and women, and there are families." - Margaret Thatcher

I'm following the beatification of Margaret Thatcher with increasing bewilderment. The best PM there ever was! A political genius! Saviour of Britain! Give the woman a state funeral!

She won't get a state funeral, though, only a ( Read more... )

Everything, including condemnation, is better with Spitting Image. ;-)

Absolutely. If there is one show I'd actually pay for them to resurrect, it's Spitting Image. Heck - the way things are at the moment, they could show reruns, people wouldn't note the difference.

I was rewatching the music video for "Land of Confusion" by Genesis the other day (speaking of Spitting Image) and thought well, the lyrics still apply, nothing's really changed except the faces of the people in charge (mostly).

I'd pay to see SI resurrected so that Chris Barrie has a regular voice gig again.

Did you read Russell Brand's article?

"It always struck me as peculiar, too, when the Spice Girls briefly championed Thatcher as an early example of girl power. I don't see that. She is an anomaly; a product of the freak-onomy of her time. Barack Obama, interestingly, said in his statement that she had "broken the glass ceiling for other women". Only in the sense that all the women beneath her were blinded by falling shards. She is an icon of individualism, not of feminism."

Yes, and I think it's one of the best things written about this. I wish he'd give up being a comedian, because he's unfunny as hell. But as a writer, he's really good and insightful.

"broken the glass ceiling for other women"... yeah, sure. By proving that women, too, can be ruthless bastards. Some achievement, wow!

As a British taxpayer I resent every single penny that will be spent on Margaret Thatcher's funeral. She was a vile person who did not care that the people were suffering as a result of her leadership. I lived through her destructive regime and cannot mourn her passing.

I read somewhere that as a former prime minister she is entitled to a state funeral. According to the BBC website she refused this years ago and that is why she is getting a 'ceremonial' one instead.

That 10 million pounds could go to helping people who are going to lose their housing because they cannot pay the bedroom tax. David Cameron is carrying on with her legacy and so the discrimination against women, the poor, disabled, unemployed, single parents, nurses etc. continues.

Couldn't agree more with everything you've said here.

Alive or dead, Margaret Thatcher and her memory are hated in Scotland - and with very good reason.

I think she is hated everywhere. I do not understand people saying how great she was, when she so obviously was not. They either did not live through her destructive regime or they were one of the few who benefited from it. I should imagine that most Tory politicians belong to the latter group.

This, that and everything else you said. For the life of me I can't understand how so many people can be so ignorant; just goes to show that the government's propaganda machine works overtime. Just look at Reagan: dangerous moron when alive, glorified American Hero (TM) when he died. Unbelievable.

OK, I have to admit that "Rust in Peace" made me laugh out loud. Bad self! XD

Other than that, yeah, what you said.

If there really is some sort of eternal justice, she will rust rather than rest!
