Life in the Slow Lane

Well, either the Zoloft is kicking in, or else I'm just getting used to things around here. Aaron and I have settled into a pattern where he takes the night shift, starting at midnight when I go to bed. He either stays up and working between feedings, or else plays the "sleep when the baby sleeps" game, and I take the day shift, starting ( Read more... )

:D Good! I'm glad you got a groove going! That initial chaos was definitely the hardest for us.

Hahaha... I remember that shift system quite well:
http://tyme.livejournal.com/2007/02/01/ My 'sleep' shift was 1:30-5:30AM. And then it got crazy again when E went back to school a few months later.

It just keeps getting better from here. Nowadays Carmen's even sleeping through the night on occasion!! It's hard to believe when you're going through it, and the sleep dep, and the accompanying depression that comes with the sleep dep, the waves of hormones and the water sweating loss and all that comes with it but it DOES get better. ::HUGS::

We're cheering for you. Keep on keeping on! You can do it!

I can come up with several suggestions regarding tv/entertainment but a question comes to mind -- would you be interested in a netflix subscription? That might make it really easy to get entertainment to you without your needing to leave the house.

If you'd be interested, reply. Since I can't come over and generate food, maybe I can arrange this instead. :)

Thanks, but I have a Netflix subscription. I'm too cheap to bother with more than the 1 disk at a time plan, though, so getting Buffy that way is too slow when I'm going through about three episodes a day. :)

Re: the drying off, I suspect your doc will either suggest you do it slow (drop one or two pumping sessions every 5 to 7 days, until you aren't pumping), or go cold turkey. The former is more or less what I did with #1 (well, he and I together tapered off, as he got to preferring formula, and I _really_ hated pumping).

I highly suggest the first option - the latter is kinda painful (although considerably faster).

Oh, and something that might be of interest to you, if there are no other issues involved: pseudoephedrine is well known for dropping/stopping milk production (something I'm a bit sorry about, as my allergies are pretty bad this spring, and I could really use an effective decongestant!)

drop one or two pumping sessions every 5 to 7 days

That's a bit too long a process--I need to be done w/ the pumping by the time we travel to NJ in June. I was thinking more like dropping one a day and/or going 4-5 hours between sessions, rather than 3. I'll see what the doc says tomorrow.

The latter would probably work better - or try this variation: wait until it starts to hurt before you pump (which I suspect will be at about the 4 to 5 hour point ...)
