vacation and surgery

Chris and I went camping in Mexico with friends over the weekend for Fuente Eterno. The weather was perfect and we did LOTS of dancing and even more walking. Especially to avoid some of the more treacherous terrain with my bum knee (although his isn't too great either). We had a great time. It was really nice to recharge after dealing with much ( Read more... )

Just tell me your doctor isn't that charlatan at Kaiser. The ex had to have an allograft BECAUSE of him.

Nope. I'm with Scripps. Living in Mammoth I've known a lot of people who've had to have surgery so asked a lot of questions and I feel very comfortable with my doc.

My husband had a hamstring graft a few years ago. It took a LONG time to heal and still gives him trouble. On the other hand, my friend Nikki had the allograft just a few months ago and her surgery went really smoothly and was nearly pain-free. I think that had a pretty big impact on my choice too ;)

My doc is currently a team physician for the Padres and the PGA event at Torrey Pines, The Buick Invitational. He used to provide medical services for other pro baseball, hockey and football teams too. I think I'm in pretty good hands!

You should talk to Jack (the ghetto boy corvite) about his. He's had multiple surgeries on both knees, and I believe at least one of them didn't go well at all. Worth looking into.

3-5 all sound rather dramatic. Good luck with it!

Push hard with the insurance for a custom brace. Donjoy makes the braces pro football players use, they are the absolute best around and are also located in carlsbad.

....that is after the surgery, as you participate in high impact sports the brace helps protect the repair (no matter what they say the repair is never as strong as the orig)

Have you tried physical therapy yet? Are they pushing you to get surgery without trying less invasive things first? Be careful, surgery is not always a great perfect solution. Whatever you end up doing, I hope it heals most quickly! It was so good to see you last Saturday! :)

I injured my right knee over a year ago. I've been trying to just strengthen it but there's no way I'll ever be able to do things like surfing or snowboarding without surgery. The ACL is completely unattached. I've pretty much given up on fighting in the SCA though. The risk of re-injury after the surgery is way too high. I don't want to go through this again!

If you get tissue from a praying person, prepare to spend time on your knees!

Ireland was mostly unaffected until today. Lucky us. Unfortunately it seems our luck just ran out. I checked our flight status again tonight and the're all grounded tomorrow. Not sure when we'll be able to leave. Will call the travel agent in the AM. Will keep you posted when I know more. Text my cell for more immediate updates.
